What Makes Pool Water Turn Brown?

From www.swimmingpo... this video talks about brown swimming water in pools and what causes this condition. Commonly brown water in pools will come from tannins in leaves which are in the water or sitting on the floor of your pool. The other, more common cause for brown pool water is iron (or metals) within the water. When you add an oxidizer to the water this causes the iron in the water to corrode causing rust coloring to the water. A sequestering agent is one common approach to deal with metals in the water but a superior approach would be to learn how the metals are getting into your pool and preventing this before it becomes a problem. Contaminated rural water sources with high iron content is the primary cause for brown water in swimming pools.

I had forgotten all about the "brown before your eyes" phenomenon. Decades ago when I was a kid, my parents had an above ground pool in a rural area and they filled it the first time with well water and then yup - poured in the chlorine and I remember it changing to brown very quickly. Nobody had any idea what happened until they went and had the water tested and explained it was filled from a well. From then on, refills were only via. a tanker truck they paid to come bring water.

@Paul-jp8zz yup thats exactly what happened and how to deal.with the problem in the easiest way possible - truck in water for filling is better than using low quality or contaminated well water.

How do you deal with tannins?

Scoop and vacuum out the leaves. Increase chlorine levels and run filtration 24/7
