Interesting that he got excited about the central location and defined it as being close to three freeways.... True sustainable housing is dense, walkable, and transit oriented... not freeway oriented. He said it's 10 minutes from downtown Portland - I assume this was by car. The real question is what would the time be taking transit? At least it sounds like a train might be coming relatively close in a future expansion.

I do believe an Infra Red Camera on the front would alleviate a lot of the foul weather issues

Even just using cameras that go a tad into the IR could help, since it would still perceive shapes through the fog as regular vision.

People misunderstand what totaled means. It doesn't mean the vehicle can't be repaired and safe to drive, it just means that can't be done for less than the remaining value of the depreciating asset. Our 2010 Honda Odyssey was nearly totaled last year after it was damaged while parked. The driver's door, mirror and front wing were damaged. We were able to get it done for around $10,000, if it had been over $12,000 the insurance company would have totaled it.

If you have an old enough beater a broken windshield could make it a total loss.
@ziploc2000
@ziploc2000 Күн бұрын
@@FutureAzA Technically yes, though I think you always have the option of paying for the repairs yourself. If the car has value to you, it may be worth paying for the windscreen even if the insurance company won't. Our annoyance was that we could have lost our vehicle through no fault of our own, and just get a $12,000 check from insurance that would not pay for a similar replacement vehicle simple because no such used vehicle existed on the market at that price.

any damage to the frame of any car is usually grounds for a right off. I have also heard if the airbags deploy the car will also be written off. Individual parts being purchased are way more expensive than the cost of the entire car.
@FutureAzA
@FutureAzA Күн бұрын
Nearly all passenger cars are unibody, so every panel is part of the frame. Airbag deployment may be a decent barometer for how serious a collision is, but that alone won't do it.
@legalsmile
@legalsmile Күн бұрын
From what I can find, airbags for frontal collisions will go off at around 12-15 mph. That's pretty low speed, so not automatically a write off. But, a single bag can cost $1-4K to replace, so very quickly a car will be written off.
@hvh377
@hvh377 Күн бұрын
@@FutureAzAMost of the panels on a unibody car are not part of the frame. Usually the bumper skins, front wings, bonnet, door skins and boot lid are not structural in any way. That's most of the panels on the car. Also the most at-risk rear quarter panels are not structural (but not as easy to replace). Unibody cars usually have crush cans bolted to the chassis legs. Relatively easy to replace. Also light damage to the unibody frame itself can be repaired by using a straightening rig (bend it back into shape). This applies to stamped and welded steel construction only. Aluminium frame and castings can not be straightened.

There is no mandate, but go off. As a band aid, getting rid of EV incentives would improve short term sales, but ultimately doom the companies, since they can't survive without international sales, and those cars will be forbidden in all major markets in a matter of years.

BS BS BS..... After the strike was settled. GM took 10 billion in extra cash they had sitting around to buy back their own stock. These corporations are all concerned about their stock prices. They need to maximize their worker productivity. Even if it means laying off workers and closing plants. Next you will blame the poor economy. The economy is so bad we are at record unemployment, record corporate profits and record high stock market. I have money invested with two financial planners. Both went up 29% in the last 12 months, Believe it or not. But we are still under Ronald Reagon's trickle down economic plan

Cost cutting measures are not contingent on stock buybacks, or a lack thereof. If you actually watch the channel, you'll know I'd criticized that move repeatedly. That's not relevant to what's going on. They're not out of cash, they're just not going to pay that much to get cars made. I had a contractor offer to clean my gutters in 2 hours for $800. When I told him that was way too much, he said they had financing available. Financing?!? I have $800. What I don't have is an appetite for paying $400/hr to some guy just because he owns a ladder. 4680 batteries were announced over 4 years ago. Even back then, they were a marginal improvement over the 2170 batteries of the time. Tesla misleadingly claimed they had 5x the capacity of the older 2170 batteries, but that was basically because they are 5x as big, 5x as heavy, with maybe a 10-15% increase in actual energy density. It's taken Tesla 4 years to get 4680 batteries to ramp up to actual mass production, and even after 4 years, they still can't make them efficiently enough to replace other battery types. In the meantime, other battery makers have been producing much more technically advanced batteries, while Tesla has wasted 4 years trying to get their battery lines operational for the 4680.
@theGness
@theGness Күн бұрын
Drew Baglino stated multiple times (and Elon, I think, at least once) that the 4680 improvements outlined at Battery Day were targeted to be realized by 2026. They have undeniably faced setbacks in the program, particularly with the dry electrode processes, but until 2026 arrives any claims that the program has failed or didn't live up to what was promised are either ill-informed or ill-intentioned
@twostate7822
@twostate7822 Күн бұрын
@@theGness Oh, so Drew and Elon are using the Toyota solid state battery calendar. Got it. 😂 BTW, if Elon really didn't think the 4680's would be in mass production until 2026, why did he only hype a 10-15% improvement in energy density??? There are have been constant reports that Elon was not happy over delays in the 4680 mass production lines.

@garethrobinson2275
@garethrobinson2275 Күн бұрын
It ain't done yet. 4680 is about hyper-production, it stands or falls by that. In essence I think they started it because they thought there would be a huge bottleneck in battery supply. What actually happened is kind of the opposite with manufacturers pulling back from predicted EV production and a glut of battery capacity. Nevertheless the 4680 dream may still become a reality in the coming years.
