In my experience a social media site and a website both have their purposes, but when it comes to showing professionalism having a website beats social media. As a photographer I have made contact with clothing designers, models and other photographers who only have a social media presence. A good amount of them (not all) were not very professional with their business or communication.
@designthescenes7 күн бұрын
Correct, both have their purposes. In my opinion, one should invest most of the energy in the long term, proven method which is a website. Social media requires too much effort for a "negative" return - by negative I mean the impact it has on mental health is only negative, generates anxiety and make people compare themselves with usually fake, staged and made up content.

Im looking for a macbook which would help me with adobe illustrator and photoshop and video editing as well. Also id be working on animation in the future... Should i go for macbook m2 8 gb?
I am having a difficult time deciding on which MacBook Air to get. I have my eyes on the new 15 Inch model, with 512GB and 24GB memory. Do you think the 24GB of memory is overkill? I have no plans on upgrading this laptop for at least 6-8 years, and I will be using this laptop primarily for being mobile (on the go) as I already have a PC which isn't as fast as the new M models macs, but which has a lot of space. One of the reasons why I prefer the 24GB of memory is because I use the Adobe suite and I also always have multiple browsing tabs open from multiple browsers (not just one browser). I also have the common Adobe apps opened simultaneously - Photoshop, InDesign, Premier pro. I don't do major video editing or animation, but mostly Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Express work as well as other Microsoft apps and media players. For the storage I use various cloud storage, and I also do streaming and virtual network app like Parallels. That's pretty much my workflow. It will be my main working computer when I am on the go, but when I'm at home I might just use my PC. Please give me the best advice. Thanks.

Hi Alex, appreciate your insight. If clients are seeking out “Army of One” creatives who can output agency work then those they are seeking will have to be senior level designers with the years of experience and years to be able to develop themselves in multiple fields. And I would say most senior level designers today are specialized and not generalist. Those just beginning their careers most definitely were not prepared in university for what the industry seems to expect from them moving forward. How can they gain their footing in such an environment? Seemingly most won’t, and that will be a loss for both creatives and clients and thus less creativity.
@designthescenes26 күн бұрын
I know its really unfair with today's conditions. But having been in the trenches, I believe this is the way moving forward. Schools need to adapt and change their programs to make designers adapt to new gen technologies and demands. The whole structure of learning should be shifted. I don't have the answers to how, but I believe the core focus should be those subjects I mentioned, forget silly subjects like history or other fillers. When I studied most subjects were rubbish except 2 or 3. I believe today is still the same. Your comment made me think, how would I teach young creatives to become relevant in the coming years if I had a school? Food for thought.

Animating and editing in after effects is a real nightmare. But there is a sequence that works for decent editing and animation: create animations as essential graphics in after effects, give them editable properties. Then edit the whole video in Premiere and add those animations on top. That workflow, when possible, is very smooth and its how I edit youtube videos.

@@designthescenes You guys are lucky, since great design + little animation is much more powerful than great animation + meh design. I come from the flipside. After Effects feels like home to me and now trying to learn design is super hard since there are almost zero effective design courses out there at the moment. Using the full Adobe CC Suite for professional work, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and never got a headache. To everyone about the SSD not slowing down your computer, the information is widely available and it is a fact, just from a quick search: "SSD will run slower if you fill it up. According to a survey, the write speed of an SSD will obviously slow down when the used space accounts for more than 75%. What's worse, your PC may slow down and get stuck when you're playing games or running some boot applications." Don't cut costs in here, go for the 512GB SSD or 1TB if you can, important for your computer to run smoothly, and also convinience of just using one device, external SSDs can be lost, or can fail.

The MacBooks don’t have hard drives they have SSD’s. And no more storage does not make your MacBook faster. Hooking up an external SSD via Thunderbolt 4/5 would still be performant. Also if your internal SSD breaks you’re screwed as you cannot get them replaced. Better to have an external SSD for projects or even an external hard drive for cold storage of projects you’ve finished.
