Glad you're doing well, Evan! Question: what inspired you to pursue dealing Poker, and how did you land your job?
@DisturbReality
@DisturbReality 23 сағат бұрын
I had no source of income, lost everything, hospitalized twice, and was working stocking shelves for $11.15/hr or something like that -- would work 40 hours a week and bring home less than $1,000 a MONTH and essentially had to start from scratch, having not worked a 'real job' for a boss in over 7-8 years... As most things in life, life finds a way... I was put on to the poker-dealing scene/bubble and, having dealt cards when I was 19/20 for a year or two, had SOME basic experience. But this time around, I was learning a completely new series of games, on-the-job learning, mistake after mistake learning the hard way day after day, with one real objective in my heart: Try to get better at it, everyday. After my first shift, in a less popular room, with less experienced dealers (which the players don't like), you couldn't imagine the elation within me when my supervisor, out of curiosity, asked, 'How much did you make today, if you don't mind me asking." And the jubilation I had when I told him "$77." Which was HUGE for me, having $77 cash to go home with that day--and he felt bad that the room wasn't more populated to provide more, for me--knowing that I was completely struggling with life and in a foreign city, doing a 'real gig' for the first time in 10 years, and just... overall in a bad way trying to pick up the pieces of my life, mind, and spirit. Fast forward to just yesterday [May 2, 2024], I was clocked in for 6.47 hours, I dealt 77 hands during my shift [at cash tables], and really only spent 4 hours *ACTUALLY* dealing cash--and I made $364, during those 4 hours of throwing around cards. Plus I'll have some cash coming my way later this month for dealing some tournament tables and a small envelope for pay-days of clocked-in hours, for the week. Essentially, I averaged last night, $45.50 PER (30 minute) TABLE --> Basically $81/hr yesterday, when you compartmentalize the time spent dealing vs the time spent in the building. Can't quite think of many other gig, with 'no education,' that pays $81/hr... and that number fluctuates any given day.. [I used to play poker with my childhood friends in my teenage years and host at my house--same basement that Disturb Reality started in, and I was always just naturally the smoothest/efficient with the cards/being the dealer]

I saw this done on another channel called fleetwood271 and it was the best I've ever seen performed, he separated each bill front and back and seamless change. Looks like real magic, this performance looks very suspect and I would immediately know you are doing some shenanigans cause you fan them out and don't turn each bill over. Plus, your stack is too thick, fleetwood271 stack looked like 5 bills all the time. That was either extremely well edited or the guy is a real moneychanger.

Love you back, Kerm! You’ll be delighted to hear how happy and therapeutically peaceful it was to be up until 4+am editing a how-to-style video. Just an additional healthy hobby with great fulfillment of hopefully helping educate someone. And yes! Dad was asking me if this concept is a [in a phrase], waste of time and that ‘When you get hired, don’t they have training videos/an oncoming system to help prepare you for real life situations?’ No, Dad, I’ve never seen anywhere, nor online, a comprehensive course and series of explanations of how to do this-there’s no training, just auditions. Sometimes if you get hired they might do minor one-on-one training, but for the most part, they expect you to know and that’s why it’s an audition🙈

Evan, It's been about 10 years since I stumbled upon your KZbin channel and got introduced to the world of magic because of you. It helped me a lot, even just from the perspective of going from a guy who hardly caught anyone's eye to the point where everyone wanted to see some magic trick (90% of which came from your creations). Subsequently, due to dance and the school I started attending, I left magic behind, and as a result, I pushed your channel out of my mind. However, whenever I get a deck of cards in my hand, I still enjoy shuffling them or trying to recall something I remember. Recently, I remembered you and suddenly so many forgotten memories surfaced, ones I didn't even know were there somewhere in my head. I must say, it was a bit of a shock for me to realize that you were struggling with addiction, considering you always seemed like someone who would avoid it at all costs. But I don't mean it in a bad way. It's great that you recognized your problem, started dealing with it, and have already been a year clean. Thank you for the wonderfully spent time with you and for all the experiences I could have because of your content. Definitely don't give up and keep working on yourself. And I'll definitely be watching you more often now! :D I am, just like other, very proud of you!!! U.P.

10:10 - when you say a guy is all in and he has $125 & the pot is $385. He can still play? And why didn't you throw in his red chips? Does he pay the difference of $260 later?
@eltobic
@eltobic 9 күн бұрын
His 125 is added to the main pot (as well as 125 from all other bidding players) and then any extra is put into a side pot that can only be won by players who matched the extra amount
@DisturbReality
@DisturbReality 9 күн бұрын
I didn’t put all his reds in (roughly $115??), because I’m blowing through a lot of examples in a short period of time. He would be All-In for all his chips - he does not have $385, realistically a total of like $240. Again, I’m going through a lot of hypotheticals to make the understanding of the formula seep in, saving time of putting chips in then pulling them back. But yea, all of his reds and greens WOULD BE thrown in.

A subtle improvement would be more clear visuals of the numbers on screen. Perhaps with a birds 🐦 👁 eye view of the table, then showing where the bets are coming from which players. How it tallys when someone calls pot. Also, a quick breakdown of industry jargon. I did a quick search on drags in gambling 🎰 & I got drag queens , scrolled, and got drag races 🏁. I did find what the drag was. But now I learned about lights, where one borrows from the pot. Is this even allowed in most places? Finally, role play a round. Maybe wear a POV cam (preferably head but chest is fine). Play normally explain nothing. Then do a Hot seat where you watch the footage, pause and extrapolate & breakdown what's happening on the table & in your head. Then play and narrate where necessary. Hope these sparked some ideas 💡 so we can follow a little easier.
@DisturbReality
@DisturbReality 9 күн бұрын
I will take the bird’s eye view angle into play/try to get a more overhead shot with labeling and work on the text being more legible to the viewer. It’s so much information I don’t want to flood the screen with text, but of course, aim for increased improvement of quality while reading comments and taking to heart helpful suggestions, such as this
@JiagerWufwood
@JiagerWufwood 9 күн бұрын
@DisturbReality I thought the follow up video was really good. 👍 Plus in hindsight after watching,C1_S1_L1, I don't think the labeling is as important. 🤔 At least for the bet costs as it changes so quick. 💨 Plus, there will be no vr labeling if I pursued this live. Gotta have the skill. 💪But 1 high editing labeling round might be nice, then go raw for lifelike feel. I might recommend a tip on how you stack chips for the guests. 💰 Increments of $100 or whatever. It helps too if I pause and want to tally up the players. 🧮 But I'm not sure if you have a system for that. 🤔 due to players fiddling 🎻 with chips.
@DisturbReality
@DisturbReality 9 күн бұрын
@@JiagerWufwood I'll be going into jargon and what's 'industry standard,' in most cases. For example, a Standard Stack is 20 chips. 20 white chips = $20, 20 red chips = $100, 20 green chips = $500, 20 black chips = $2,000. Most players will typically keep their stacks in 20-piece stacks, but not everyone abides by that, which is okay - so long as chips aren't spread all around in front of them, and that they aren't keeping their higher-denomination chips in the back/hidden from the table (this, and many rules and etiquette expectancies, we'll be going over) You'll see how I'll be trying to keep this organized as the video series unfolds, as it will get to a point where the viewer watching for the first time in the middle of the series is like, "I like this but I don't know where to start, and I don't know where to go, and I don't know what I should've watched before *this* video." Been mapping this out, mentally, for a bit..
