I have to put the paper way further on the cutting mat else the laser doesn't go low enought and stops. When I do that Its looking for the left bottom corner one but ends up over the line... getting registration failed every single time ... don't know what I'm doing wrong. I save the file as a pdf and send it to my fine as the printer uses an app. Printing it without any problems and then trying to cut it but doesn't work.... any tips?
@silhouettesuccess2 күн бұрын
My guess is that the size is getting distorted in the process. It's best to print from Silhouette Studio and make sure that the page setup matches the printer size.

Are you talking about select by fill color? What type of file are you working with?
@debduv20752 күн бұрын
Yes, it was in a SVG bundle but it downloaded as a PNG. I have contacted the company and they are supposed to be working on it.
@silhouettesuccess2 күн бұрын
You can do a trace on the image, or if you have auto trace on, right click and release the compound path. Then you will have to select pieces of each element and make a compound path. For instance, an A would have the main part of the letter and the hole. Select both, right click, make a compound path. You can then select the pieces that you want to be a certain color and group them together. It will be a little time consuming, but it will work.

Thanks Brenda, I especially liked the multi panel mode, I never knew about that! With the simplify, does it change the geometry at all? I've been drawing Spirographs digitally, and the Excel file that I use to generate them, uses 3600 data points, which I guess relates to individual nodes? I like the idea of simplifying them, but don't want the geometry to distort... at least not noticably.
@silhouettesuccess2 күн бұрын
It might change it slightly, but it shouldn't be noticeable.
@edwardholmes912 күн бұрын
@@silhouettesuccess Thanks, I'll have to give it a go, as each SVG that I'm generating is 136kB and some of the compound designs can have dozens of patterns overlaid, which soon adds up. Plus it takes a long time to sketch them!

@silhouettesuccess2 күн бұрын
That is the overcut feature, and it is mainly used with cardstock. It tells the machine to go just past the end of the cut line instead of making a turn at corners. It gives a cleaner cut on corners and intricate cuts, but it takes a bit longer because the blade lifts a lot more.

You will only need to connect your scanner or calibrate your phone once, but the rest of the process does take a bit of time. It gets to be routine after awhile, though.

How did you get the two parts lined up exactly on your wall? Not sure I could eyeball that so well. Hoping there is a trick.
@silhouettesuccess7 күн бұрын
I used an 18 in. ruler along the bottom edge of the letters to line them up. I thought I had it crooked, but it worked out.
@priyamuehr28427 күн бұрын
@@silhouettesuccess just for clarification, so you lined the second piece from the bottom. So you worked the first piece from the top down and the second piece from the bottom up?
@silhouettesuccess7 күн бұрын
The trick is to leave a bit of adhesive exposed on the transfer tape. That will hold the pieces in place while you get them set just right. So, once you have the design on the transfer tape, set it back on the backing, but leave about a half inch exposed. I tacked the first piece up and got it straight, then removed that transfer tape. I tacked the second piece up with the exposed edge of the transfer tape and used the ruler to make sure it was even. The little bit of sticky on the transfer tape is like an extra set of hands. You can even step back to make sure you've got it right before you commit.

That looks great...as does your new craft space! I don't know the answer to this: if you make a wall decal like this, can it ever be removed in the future without damaging the wall? I have avoided wall decals because I'm unsure about it.
@silhouettesuccess7 күн бұрын
Removeable vinyl should not damage walls. If you use permanent vinyl, it gets iffy. Apply heat when removing and it should be just fine. I've done a huge family tree before without any problems.
