I have to put the paper way further on the cutting mat else the laser doesn't go low enought and stops. When I do that Its looking for the left bottom corner one but ends up over the line... getting registration failed every single time ... don't know what I'm doing wrong. I save the file as a pdf and send it to my fine as the printer uses an app. Printing it without any problems and then trying to cut it but doesn't work.... any tips?

My guess is that the size is getting distorted in the process. It's best to print from Silhouette Studio and make sure that the page setup matches the printer size.

You can do a trace on the image, or if you have auto trace on, right click and release the compound path. Then you will have to select pieces of each element and make a compound path. For instance, an A would have the main part of the letter and the hole. Select both, right click, make a compound path. You can then select the pieces that you want to be a certain color and group them together. It will be a little time consuming, but it will work.

Thanks Brenda, I especially liked the multi panel mode, I never knew about that! With the simplify, does it change the geometry at all? I've been drawing Spirographs digitally, and the Excel file that I use to generate them, uses 3600 data points, which I guess relates to individual nodes? I like the idea of simplifying them, but don't want the geometry to distort... at least not noticably.

That is the overcut feature, and it is mainly used with cardstock. It tells the machine to go just past the end of the cut line instead of making a turn at corners. It gives a cleaner cut on corners and intricate cuts, but it takes a bit longer because the blade lifts a lot more.

I would use the vinyl, matte settings in the software for Oracal, but I used HTVRont adhesive vinyl and I use a blade depth of 2 for that with 2 passes, leaving the speed and force at 5 an 10. In the page setup, I set my width at 11.9 and my height at 70 and chose no mat. This project was a lot of fun and made a huge impact for little cost.

@@silhouettesuccess just for clarification, so you lined the second piece from the bottom. So you worked the first piece from the top down and the second piece from the bottom up?
@silhouettesuccess
@silhouettesuccess 7 күн бұрын
The trick is to leave a bit of adhesive exposed on the transfer tape. That will hold the pieces in place while you get them set just right. So, once you have the design on the transfer tape, set it back on the backing, but leave about a half inch exposed. I tacked the first piece up and got it straight, then removed that transfer tape. I tacked the second piece up with the exposed edge of the transfer tape and used the ruler to make sure it was even. The little bit of sticky on the transfer tape is like an extra set of hands. You can even step back to make sure you've got it right before you commit.
