I like birds but in aviaries. I took over my parrot from my parents and i try to let him free roam as much as possible but it still breaks my heart his enclosure is a literal cage. I see your passion and i love it but on the other hand it makes me a bit annoyed the reptile hobby gets the hate whilst we often try to make the enclosures a little slice of nature whilst this is sterile. I really dont want to be negative. And im curious how other pet keepers think about what i said. If im wrong to feel like this please tell since i love learning just keep it cival since i am really careful to not insult anybody.

Must be quite overwhelming for the birds. especially the more intelligent birds,like the parrots and mynahs.They looked bewildered. But i'm sure,FOR THE MOST PART,the owners are dedicated,and their passions,as of yours,are welcoming/. Kinda shame that the natural 'wild' colours are bred out of some of them,because i have a friend who likes to keep natural plumaged as-in-the-wild birds

Processed foods are an potential problem, with perles supply was erratic. I used perles and results were dreadful, changed back to soaked and bingo.

Interesting you mention salt in birds diet,there was an old bag of road salt in the corner of a builders yard in nottingham,i saw goldies dropping down into the bag from the fence non stop everday,,, i threw a .ump in my aviary and the goldies pecked away on it to no detriment to theselves ,,keep up the great work ollie 😊

I kept the same birds for years. Never had a problem with the cold but was tormented and the birds were tormented by cats. Apart from that I had a recurring problem with goldies and linnets, sometimes redpolls; inflamed and distended stomach. The birds all behaved normally then one would tuck his head under the wing and thT was it, inflamed and distended stomach and certain death ! In those days there were no ‘forums’, just a copy of Cage and Aviary birds. I never did find out what this was or what caused it.

That’s a very weird symptom, I’m wondering did you give them any protein? I’ve heard of people giving too much protein causing the birds stomach and liver problems

Is there a reason for drying out the Apple twigs rather than giving them to the birds as fresh?
@OCAVIARY
@OCAVIARY 2 күн бұрын
I have given them fresh in the summer, however in the winter I prefer to dry them out to remove any moisture which could bring fungal problems on the birds feet

Hi, Which breed of Canary is best to train in other type of singing? I am singing bird lover of the Surinamese/ Brazilian siging birds. There is a yellow Canary there that they comverted in taking over the song of one of the breeds we use there. But I do not know if this is the best type to use. What is your advice?
