@@yoursimplegolfswing interesting…what I see you doing and describing isn’t what Mike taught in 2003 (2 yrs before he passed). I did see Dunaway (never met him) on a video describe the hand action similar to your description. I've got to stay that I loved the observations in the video. Its an excellent point to keep in mind while learning the swing. Thanks. It would be great if you could make a video comparing Austin pivot with the hips movement explained by Athletic Motion Golf videos where they show how Pro's move their hips. Looking at Mike Austin / Dunaway sequence, it does appear that hips do go back with the left knee moving right. See the 4th and 5th photo of top row in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mike_Austin_Sequence.JPG It is useful to explain what is the difference between this and the reverse pivot that you mentioned.

I have two points to make on that. For the most part golf club lie angles and lengths are standardized, but peoples heights are not standardized. That alone should tell you the concept of a 30° bend on everybody with different heights, would make the club work most efficiently is rubbish. The second point is we want the most efficient swing. If you have a good short game, you score.
@yoursimplegolfswing
@yoursimplegolfswing 29 күн бұрын
Actual statistics show that the most important stat for lowering your handicap is greens in regulation. The best way to hit more greens in regulation is to hit long drives in the fairway so you are hitting short irons into the green. Learning distance and accuracy with your driver and your irons will allow you to consistently post lower scores. You can have the best short game in the world, but if it takes you three shots to get close to a green on a par four you will never score low.

@@yoursimplegolfswing First, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics. Second, If it takes 3 shots to get close to the green, YOU DON'T HAVE A GOOD SHORT GAME. @josephciolino5493 Green In Regulation. That means on a par four you are on the green in two shots. And a par five you are on the green in three shots. Of course, on a par three you would be on the green in one shot. If you are hitting the greens in regulation, you will never face that 40 yard shot you mentioned. Also, if you do not reach the green in regulation, you will never have a birdie opportunity no matter how good your short game is. You cannot score low without birdie opportunities.

Dr Kwon has proved that this is the most efficient and powerful way to swing a golf club. He says trail hip goes back and up and then the lead hip goes back and up. Tom, thanks for sharing that with all of us. It truly is amazing all of what Austin figured out on his own. This is a really good video, Matt - I think many people try to force that move to 4:00 on the backswing, whereas thinking “3:00” will make the move to 4:00 automatic. And for me, after a little forward press, that hip move to 3:00 is the very first move I make in the golf swing. I don’t start by taking the club back with the hands, arms or shoulders…I let that hip shift to 3:00 sort of drag the club back and “heave” it into the backswing, keeping tension out of my upper body. I’m a believer that tension in the hands, arms and shoulders is the No. 1 killer of the golf swing. I view the arms/club unit as a tension-free pendulum that is powered by the hips and legs. Your discussion here of the lower body is exactly how the motor for that pendulum should work. Well done; I think Mike and Mike would be proud. 👍

There are many different methods for swinging a golf club. I tried most of them in my quest to find an efficient effective and powerful swing that is simple and easy to repeat. Matt, One thing that has always confused me with the start of the downswing is the order of things. Is the firing of the trail hip causing the left heel to slam down or is the left heel slamming down what causes the hip to fire? Which motion should you focus on? Thanks.
@yoursimplegolfswing
@yoursimplegolfswing Ай бұрын
Hi Mike, thanks for the question. They are simultaneous actions. You really can’t do one without the other happening. But I do understand that it is easier for some to focus on just one. Personally, I find the concept of slamming the left heel down and straightening, the left knee to be a good trigger. But you must still focus on bringing that right hip around. With training and practice, you will be able to think of all three things, heel down, left leg straighten, right hip fire all at the same time. When you nail that movement, you will find your most explosive distance.
