Just cause everyone is doing it doesn't make it right. In 2024, I can guarantee there are more DJs who do not understand gain structure or know what to do with it than there are DJs who do. With large systems with plenty of output power, there's no need to every go to 9 on the trim. 6 max. Masters at 3-6 max also. Live sound is an input and output balance. This is the input side, you only need to input so much signal, before you push it up louder on the output side (speakers). Proper sound that is loud and immersive is never red or loud to the point of hurting your ears, but I don't think anyone knows what that is anymore cause they've all sustain hearing damage and can't tell anymore. A great sound system will allow the volume to be loud, in your face and immersive and still leave space for you to be able to converse with someone next to you. The more you push that signal, all you're doing is flattening the track to all sound like one level. Which means you lose the depth of your bass, you flatten all your other sounds; claps, snares, hats to be the same reduced volume. There is no more dynamics. Finally, I don't know why any DJ sitting on a booth in front of DJ monitors would every be touching the master ultimately because they have no idea what the PA system sounds like, cause they're not in front of it. This is a 2 person job. A tech in the field monitoring the main sound, and a cooperative, experienced DJ that understands what we're talking about. Stay out of the red, don't tell people to push it anyway. If there's limiters in place, you're not getting any more volume from it anyway. If you need more volume, that's when you add more speakers or increase the amps/speakers output side. Wear ear plugs, cause obviously all care and knowledge of doing this properly is gone.

Rekordbox auto cue is poorly implemented and does not distiguish between hot cues or memory cues. But if you have 100 fresh songs and need some sort of rudimentary cue placement done very quickly it will suffice as a band-aid placeholder until you can come back and fix it.

For me I choose some famous acapella and use them in the breakdown in loop , like raise up for example, it's keep people dancing ajd signing the acapella and after that the drop will be the best thing after.

Your approach on energy is something the whole scene can use. It’s absolutely astounding how many DJs lose crowds with horrible reads on their rooms and preplanned sets.

Your description at the beginning is exactly what put me off people like Armin at festivals.. 30 seconds of beats then 3 minutes of breakdowns constantly. Great video!

If you play only climax after climax, means only 2 min of every track. Isn’t it like swiping each 3 seconds on insta etc? How can you build an atmosphere if you pushing the audience all the time? I don’t know, but maybe I am too oldfashioned. Mixing becomes too much preplanned and less spontaneous. Am I wrong? Curious about responses.

You ROK .. I'm a 55 yr old coming back into the mix scene, I used to spin Break Beat in Tampa Fla a long long time ago when vinyl ruled and digital was a Dat.. I chose to re-enter the scene as a BREAK BEAT only dj, I'm spending many hours per week listening and many more hours mixing and reviewing.. Could you spend some time showcasing how to build transitions using modern Breaks? Bowser GUAU Hankook .. to name a few of the HOT breaks artists are who I'm spinning at the moment.. Did I mention? You ROK!!..

I've made this mistake, ended up making a fool of myself in front of my dad, at one of my own parties, because I lost my usb... realized I didn't have it on me about 10 minutes before my set and was way too messed up to remember where I had been the hour before that. Was so embarrassed as my dad and other dj friends were looking all over for said usb. Thankfully it was found, but the anxiety combined with my state of mind made for one of my biggest upsets as a dj.

Think of it as you're paying $ to save hours, instead of stumbling blind trying to learn yourself without any roadmap you're paying for the roadmap! So much time saved!! Played 4 houseparties so far it's fun as hell, would recommend :D
