For my eg4 6000, and two batteries; Is it possible that when my batteries are filled up. I can stop using the battery power, and just switch over to the grid or just PV power, and preserve my battery power for when i need it?

I hope EG4 creates a program for 18k owners to "upgrade" to the new 12k. I purchased an 18k with the expectation that "top of the line" would be able to start my 4ton AC. The 18k cannot; 135A LRA trips the 18k immediately (A soft start is just a workaround that adds to the base cost). Many others have mentioned this as well on the various solar forums. I'd happily do a 1:1 swap of my 18k to this 12k if it means I can run my AC without issue.

Hey Guys, I live in Jamaica, hurricane Beryl hit us a few days ago leaving most without power. It was our incremental investment in the affordable modular products from EG4 that is taking us through right now, especially powering our fridge. We have the 3000 watt inverter and two Lifepower4 batteries, purchased over a period of six months. These products are diy friendly, well built, after purchase supported and delivered as advertised. If the bosses at EG4 feel generous, we could really use two more batteries as cloud cover and power outages have pushed the two we have to their limit to provide backup. Thanks for being customer focused.

It would seem that the EG4 6000XP would have to synchronize with the generator for this feature to work. Is that the case? If so, why not apply the same feature with the ACin from the grid instead of the grid bypass feature?

That’s neat and I can see a use for it instead of lugging around a laptop. Can the laptop software also bring a battery out of a soft brick? Suggestion, instead of just waiting 10 seconds at the end it might be nice to see the updater blinking green LED to go solid green indicating that it has finished and the update firmware and firmware on the battery match. Just a random thought.

To get a higher surge capacity, all the manufacturer of this inverter did was add more capacitors to DC input stage and added far more costly higher, amperage MOSFETS or IGBTs which did nothing to improve this transformerless inverter's shorter life expectancy and the lack of any galvanic isolation for safety's sake. I would never power my appliances or charge my EV with any inverter that lacked galvanic isolation.
@sciglassblower9 күн бұрын
Nice way of saying that the ChargeVerter CANNOT communicate with the batteries when the batteries are communicating with the inverter, which is always the case! So why did you put communication on the ChargeVerter and increase the price significantly if we CANNOT use it? I wanted the old ChargeVerter but you discontinued it and I had to pay $1000 for 2. That's $200 more out of my pocket for Nothing of benefit.
@mikeg23219 күн бұрын
Simple question.Does the inverter use the grid to help with its massive surge capacity and leg imbalance surge.
@eg4electronics9 күн бұрын
All of the surge and output specs are in EPS mode (no grid whatsoever)! We cut off the grid input for the demonstration done in this video, as it wouldn't make sense to show the grid-tied capabilities for this reason.

Sure, you may be able to start this 5 ton AC load and a 3kW resistive load when this inverter MOSFETs (or IGBTs) and capacitors are brand new, but how many times will this inverter be able to repeat this before failing? Transformerless inverters like these are notorious for providing shorter life expectancies when compared to transformer based inverters, especially when repeatedly starting high inductance loads. Google it. In addition, It's a well established fact that transformerless inverters like these are notorious for providing shorter life expectancies when compared to transformer based inverters, especially when repeatedly starting high inductance loads. Don't take my word for it, Google it. In addition, because this inverter offers no galvanic isolation between its DC boost stage and its AC out put, during a catastrophic failure of its H-Bridge circuit, you run the risk of damaging your appliances or your EV's onboard charger and even setting them on fire. Search KZbin for the term "Solar Inverter Catastrophic Failure" to learn more about transformerless inverter failures.

No. The 18k cannot do this. I have an 18k, and it cannot handle 135A inrush. This is real-life experience along with confirmation from Trevor@Signature Solar, and several other owners' posts on diysolar forum. It sucks for people like myself shelled out so much money for "top of the line" 18kPV, and this newer model can handle bigger loads.

A five ton AC unit is equivalent to a 5kW load, that coupled with a 3 kW resistive load is a total of 8kW which is what this inverter is supposed to be rated at. So I wouldn't be calling this "pushing the limits" of this inverter. If you wanted to demonstrate pushing the limits of this low surge inverter, then what you really should have done was first add a resistive load of 4 or 5 kW, then attempt to start the 5kW inductive AC loads. A low frequency, 8kW transformer based inverter could easily do this, but I'll bet you that this 8kW high frequency, transformerless inverter could never succeed at starting and running these loads.

A bit more explanation on the sine wave might benefit you. You zoomed into a really ugly sine wave. Very dirty... You should point out that that only lasted 0.4sec before it stabilized, so the dirty power didn't last long. Also remember that the sin of eating cake is gluttony, but eating pie is ok because the sin of pi is zero.

This definitely won't be the last time I'll try to show what's going on under the hood, so I'll make sure to study up for a better explanation! Appreciate the feedback.

I must say it’s really sad that customers of EG4 have to go through all of this just to upgrade the firmware. In all I’ve spent four or five hours on the phone with signature solar trying to get this figured out. I even patiently waited for them to send me a cable that I needed that apparently wasn’t included when I bought it. That’s bad enough. Let’s forget that when you download the firmware, your security software will tell you that it’s malware. Let’s forget that your security software will probably try to delete the files. So this process is convoluted and you need a special video right? After four sessions with Signature Solar support I have been unsuccessful and my unit is closer to the garbage can than ever. The fact that EG4 is too lazy to register their software with Windows and instead put it on you to figure out this complicated upgrade is really unacceptable. I will no longer buy EG products because of this poor treatment they put on their customer. Pathetic.

I am having an issue with the EG4 Hybrid Split AC i bought last year. I contacted the vender that sold it to me and they stated they were aware but do not have a fix. the issue is that when I have a clear sunny day, my unit is not pulling power (watts) from the PV array. If I turn off the breaker then the unit switches over to the power from the PV array, but as soon as I turn of the breaker it switches back to AC power. I have 6- 200watt 24 volt panels connected in series to the unit. In addition I noticed this moring that, while my return tempature is at 71 degrees F, and my set point is at 74 degrees F, the unit is still pulling 500 watts of power. For the last year when this is the case it only pulled 40 watts of power.
