hi mate, I started making stainless exhaust parts like headers, manifolds, etc. My welds usually have colour on them, gold, sometimes even blue. they look nice, do you think theres any benefit to cleaning exhaust stuff like this? Ive found when the exhaust gets used and the stainless discolours, you can usually see a band where the heat affected zone was, not sure if this would help with that

I have never used bristle brushes before. I dont do any sanitary but do a lot of highly finished stainless and brass for high end retail displays. I wonder how these would hold up as a the first few steps towards a number 4 brushed finish on irregular shaped parts. I am going to order a few. Thanks

I loved this video because I was a sanitary welder for 5 years. I'm a maintenance mechanic now because that's where the money is but I love this type of work. Once in a while the company I worked for would contract two guys, a fitter and a welder. And they made four times what I was making. I'd like to know how to get that gig.

You should make some tacking bands that will hold the bend onto the tube while you tack. And also when you tack have your machine set to about 90amps and on 2t setting and fast tack that's how you tack dairy tube bud

Very informative! I found all of the info in Audel’s Millwrights & Mechanics Guide, but it was helpful to see actual examples.

You just can’t leave politics out of a welding video? There are 5000 other channels that discuss politics. This channel and its comment section are for discussing welding. I came here to learn about stainless weld cleaning techniques, not to see who you are voting for. Thanx.

Bit of a random question, but how would you go about welding Tri-Clamp Flanges into something that's not a tube? Mainly something like a large boil kettle, would you just be taping off the large opening and going about business as usual, pretending the kettle is a giant tube? Secondly, are there any special or different techniques for sanitary welding copper? Appreciate the videos!

When welding a tank ferrule to a tank, you can isolate the weld for purging by taping off the face of ferrule and making a large pocket on the inside of the tank with foil or tape or anything. That way you just purge the small chamber and not the whole tank.

Are you getting power off a generator out in the field? Are these capable off of 110 if needed in a pinch?
@BlueCollarDrew
@BlueCollarDrew 8 күн бұрын
Almost always use the 110 power at the plant. Unless there’s a crappy breaker or gfci.. the 110 wall outlets work fine up to around 110-120 amps

I just purchased some 316 Sch 40 stainless steel pipe for new davits on my sailboat. I found a good price from Onlinemetals, but the pipe finish is terrible and needs some attention. I was wondering what the best way to clean-up the pipe and found your channel. Perfect timing. I'll order a few of the suggested products to clean and brighten up the pipe.

European pipe design engineer here, I basically use CAD to make plans and measurements of all these offset distances so our fitters don't have to bother with it. I only have one question: If you use a calculator, how do you convert the base 10 result fractions into base 2, 4, 8 or 16? That seems really bothersome to me, as a metric system enjoyer.

When does multiplying by 1.5 stop working. I guess my question is does is work for all schedule pipe? Or sanitary?
@BlueCollarDrew

I believe its all schedule pipe down to 1”. And yes this works for sanitary also(Short 90s)

Badass video man. At what point does multiplying by 1.5 not work regarding take off? Obviously as you thickness increases sched 40 to 80 you id changes so it would still work. But will it still work for small schedule pipe such as 10 or sanitary fittings?

As a Canadian I laughed at the grams per inch chart. We're technically metric but use a sometimes confusing combination of both. Height and weight are imperial but we're clueless as to what that is in metric even though we understand what a kilometre is perfectly well. So on and so on.
