Maintenance wise, fiber composite/aluminum/steel, which hull material proves to be less costly in the long run?

Your videos are rare precious gems in the maritime ocean of vessels market where in 10 out of 10 cases everything is painted in gold while you show that to keep the gold shining one ought to get rid of the never ending rusting process underneath- and the costs involved!

Something to be said about giving it all up and moving to a live-aboard lifestyle, there’s something else that could be said about spending 25% of your video begging for money to help you do so… but I’ll be polite and not say it.

I grew up in Manatee County (Bradenton), and boated those beautiful waters for decades❣🥰 I miss Egmont Key a d SandDollar Island (Passage Key). Passage Key was once the twin size of Egmont and contained freshwater Springs. Ships would stop and replenish their water supply❣🤩

New to trawlers and bout to live aboard one on the chesapeake. Dig your vids. Really like your setup you think very similar to me. Lots of safety gear, multi extinguisher. Practical setup. Only one ive seen that doesnt make sense is the love seat. 2500$ F#@k that you definitely coulda built your own for few hundred. If you dont know how to sew get a machine and learn they save you so much long term with everything from cushions to fixing clothes to sunbrella repair replacement ect...

Tasteful upgrades. Great boat! I'm not always the biggest trawler. My dad had a small one - I think it was a new 80s Albin - maybe a 270(?). It had its moments. We all liked the mid cockpit that was very sailboat like, with the bare bones rear cabin that was IIRC, Just a birth. Wet head, raw water flush w/hand pump. It was full-on roughing it.

I really love the yacht. Really love it - once aboard. I hate saying negative things about beautiful yachts, so I'll just call it "critique". ;) It's just that I never cared for that era of yacht design - like hi-top sneakers. It was all due to the silly shape of the windows. All the builders (regular production that is) all did it. I dunno why, but I blame Sea Ray for that look. Hatteras should have gone with an original, classic, look and bucked that trend. They looked like all the regular production boats (i.e.,Sea Ray, etc.). Couldn't tell one from another at 50 yards. But when Sea-Ray started sloping their bows downward. What the?! *+&=*# argh! It proved that they were never intended to be used as anything but luxury "look at me! lake boats" OTOH, I LOVED the last Hatteras M90' Panacera (2019 or 2020, maybe 2021?). Now, THAT vessel is handsome! They managed to make it contain a lot of new excellent features, and new crisp, sharp lines of yore that give me that feel I was looking at the unmistakable style. That Hatteras look" baby! The boat you're featuring here, along with any of the classic 30-50'+MYs look interchangeable, and did not inspire ocean-faring sea worthiness (just be strategic about weather en route. In fact, before you even depart the slip.

I was just thinking of the guy who posted to one of your videos, "you were in the gulf, not the ocean." and was about to roll my eyes until I remembered correcting my mom (parent's had a beach house on Anna Maria), "mom, it's not the ocean, it's the gulf.". 😂 Great video. On vacations we'd all be on the island. We had a family tradition going back to the 80s of walking along the beach to The Sandbar for sunset dinners and Happy Hours. Great times!

Great tour. Congrats on the sale of the Defever, the 44 is one of my favs. However there is no shortage of well kept Krogens (owners have $$ usually and they are made well)- Actually the Island Trader next door was impressive as they are often let go and frankly build quality was questionable. Good luck with your next boat- as we say "two best days for boat owners" and you get them close together- hahhahaa enjoy.
@AquaCultured2 ай бұрын
Thanks much Ed! That Island Trader you saw is hands down the best one I have seen. I will hopefully have a Yacht Tour edition of that vessel as well. The best days in my eyes is the day when you buy a boat and then the day when you buy the next boat.

Rather have an aluminum toe rail with holes as in a sailboat for utility teak toe rails are for boat shows . In fact a lot of appearance items on any boat are just for boat show sales . I ought to know I have owned two sailboat distributor companies. If you are a newbie always take an old salt dog like me you a show . Because I will steer you clear of feature shoals that would make life on board less pleasant 😎
@AquaCultured2 ай бұрын
Teak toe rails are for show/boatshows for sure! I love the way they look but I don’t love the upkeep. I can understand and appreciate the preference toward utilitarianism rather than looks to sell and show off. Thanks for watching

Those motors will need rebuild at 12-15k hours not 15-20k hours you said at least not if you ever want to rebuild them rebuild at 12-15k hours insures the ability to continue to be able to rebuild them in the future yes they can go that far 15-20k hours but usually isn't much left of it that's rebuild able the blocks will wear an fail that's usually what takes them out that and people adding additional crankcase ventilation holes in the cast block that will require block replacement ie; complete new motor but yes they are great engines an can last a 100years of service when looked after properly ya got a nice boat sad I don't have the cash to releave of it but best of luck to all I'll get there one day
