If it exhibits similar symptoms then the ribbon cable and poor solder connections as seen here is often the culprit.

I was disgusted by the fact that Goodwill would ship a rare collectible set like this and just slap all the shipping labels right on the original boxes without even double boxing. Which also led to some terrible tumbles en-route since the machine was not new old stock and was missing Styrofoam and padding, so the computer case itself was broken in half. Sigh...

I would never buy another one again either knowing they are now calling off repairs for out-of-warranty radios, despite openly acknowledging it was a manufacturing defect that affects a huge amount of these units from 2020-2022. So many will just now start experiencing the symptoms and will be within 1-2 years of the warranty. That is disgraceful for an expensive set. I still don't have huge confidence that the repaired one will hold out any longer.

@@MattPilzHey, I was thinking of buying this unit but I’ve seen all the reviews of the white screens happening after a year or two of use. Like you said, is that only with the units that was made in Covid era and is safe to get now or it’s still a bad unit to get?

@@tristan3896 When I spoke to the rep he indicated it was due to a manufacturing flaw as part of their material sourcing during covid. I believe the issue stemmed from cold solder joints or not enough solder along the contacts from the assembly line so it easily lost contact with the board from ordinary use. He assured me it was fixed in current versions, and I'd assume it would be after the nightmare this issue has caused across multiple models, but in truth we may not know until more years go by of testing the repaired/replaced units.

Yes these were output from the uncompressed audio with no filtering. I know many try to play scope music through KZbin direct, which will always look abysmal since they run compression.

That is really strange, as I just had it done when I made this video and was told on the phone there was no limit since they acknowledged it is a manufacturing defect that affects so many. I did not have to provide a receipt and mine was more than a year out of any service warranty. I do think it's possible to fix on your own by reheating the solder points along the chip(s) if you or someone you know has the ambition to do so. Had mine not been covered I was going to repair it myself.

​@@MattPilzI just called, the tech explained that they are extending the 1 year warranty to a 2 year warranty, and you have to have your proof of purchase. I just bought a used car with this unit in it, so they decided not to stand behind their product, and lost a future customer.

@@timothygorman2846 It is disappointing to hear these stories. I had high regard for their customer service when they offered to fix mine and others reported similar even way out of warranty and without a receipt. But seeing many now comment that they couldn't without receipt or because it was too long gives me more hesitation to ever recommend them for head units.

The 312 is going to be an international model and the old firmware for those are much harder to come across. Sorry I do not know where to look.

That is crazy and others are reporting the same thing. Mine was from 2022 and well outside of warranty and the man on the phone said they would honor it without receipt and regardless of warranty status since they know the issue was so widespread. It angers me to think they would backtrack on that. I also believe the true fix may just be to reflow solder on the embedded IC, they end up swapping the entire board but I bet it's fixable without any cost or extra parts.

Just a simple water speaker that reacts to loudness. They were popular for computers many years ago.

Glad you enjoyed, my repair efforts slowed way down this past year due to other commitments. I had the CyberVision 99% functional including the ability to read data from cassettes or modern inputs, but something got bumped at the last second while reassembling and fried a lot of components! They've become very fragile components. I did author the full Wikipedia article on this unique computer since almost nothing was known of it previously.

Others have reported the same thing, very strange why some need it and others do not. Makes me believe there is disarray within their customer service or warranty dept. where some people aren't even aware that this should be a courtesy fix regardless of status.

Makes no sense why they would require a receipt for some and not others when the man on the phone told me this year that they are honoring all repairs without receipt or anything since it is such a widespread and known problem that THEY are the cause of. Sorry to hear that.

@@MattPilz they probably realized they're losing a ton of money sending out a ton of defective products. I'll never get pioneer again after that. That was kind of expensive for me and lasted maybe a year.

@@damon7845 Nope I wouldn’t either if I were you. I had about given up and just put up with mine for 8 months of failure after barely owning it. No product should be that skimpy on quality control and it affected multiple models too.

Hi thanks for alerting me! I will check it out and hope it can be resolved, Panasonic's market is pretty fragile and I'm actually surprised the game is still running after 12 years!

Unfortunately this appears to be a problem on Panasonic's side and out of my control. I would like to get it restored but am unsure if there's even a good contact at Panasonic to ask about anymore, I have tried everything I can on my end but it fails before my code is even being read.

Do you still get sound and controller response? Can you see any image at all? The brightness control is a 250K variable resistor (R509). It can be difficult to pinpoint the culprit without tracing the measurements with an oscilloscope, but several capacitors on the power board (C507 and C508) feed directly adjacent to it.

It's sometimes enough to just open it up and clamp the ribbon cable down more firmly with alligator clips. I recommend adding some electrical tape around the clips so the hard plastic doesn't cut into the ribbons.

This was just a raw video capture from a camera phone. It is running on a real 1950s TV so the key to capturing it is to set your shutter speed to 1/60 (US-based).

Yes, it gets fairly complex to manage tempo and it can't be fine-tuned down to a precise BPM. It really is just a giant loop of reading values and each statement within that loop causes more slowdown.
