Lovely reminder of aikido practice, thank you for sharing:) Bokken (and Jo) practise outdoors is so much better than indoors; I realised just how low the lights and ceiling are indoors.

This is probably the stupidest question anyone has ever asked: But in simplest terms, why are Aikido students taught to slap the mat with their hands when they fall?
@iamaikidoka

Well, it helps to absorb the impact & relieve some of the shock taken by the body!

Do you need such a mat to practice at home? What if I went to the park, found a flat space, and tried this on the grass there?

Of course not:), but this was during the hard lockdown when we were stuck at home. I often practice outdoors.

I'd like to ask you one other question: I just started taking Aikido lessons. I work strange hours, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to fit Aikido lessons into my schedule... If I were to wake up, head straight to a one hour lesson, and THEN eat breakfast right after the lesson, then do you see anything wrong with that? Thanks.

Thank you for sharing this well documented and personal journey of being an uchi deshi! There are not many videos like this out there. It seems you have empowered yourself by stepping out of ordinary life to pursue your dreams, and you beautifully share this experience with the world in this video. I hope it also inspires others to be bold and pursue their dreams, whether in the realm of aikido or something else.

Dankjewel Tjwan! 🙏
