Just milled deer corn, i choose this due to cost, live on a lake, these wild birds ate so much of the store bought wild bird feed that the cost was prohibited. Waiting for the results, and epuld love the feedback from someone who had luck w deer crack corn.

Thank you for the information and the video. But geez Louise it would cost me $130 to have this delivered, and for less than what is $20 worth of material for what is basically a wire cage. I've got money but I have to draw the line on this one, waaay to much money for this item. I'll build my own, but it's a good idea.

Unfortunately, the sparrows eventually get used to it and will begin to come back. In my experience this has been the case

Another happy birder. I added three of these units to feeders yesterday. The change was rapid and startling. The house sparrows are now limited to being ground feeders while the blackcap chickadees, American goldfinch and house finch have returned in large numbers. I had been challenged in getting the chickadees to stick around for the full winter in the past. Now they have the peanut feeder to themselves and are more likely to stick around.

Thank you, thank you, There are too many well intentioned nest boxes out there, but unfortunately they turn into predator feeding stations. Thank you for your great idea of the telescoping nest pole and for emphasizing the importance of installing a predator guard.Great Work!

I found your tips helpful. I am actually trying to fix a desk and a sheet music stand that has telescope legs using a pressure screw to hold and lock it in place for the desired height. The bolt and pressure screw are stripped making my furniture practically useless, but I'm thinking if I could drill all the way through the poles and insert something completely through it and secure it, I could reclaim the use of my furniture. Your tips for drilling were the best examples I've seen. Thank you!

I love the sparrow as they are small and do get bullied a lot by other birds I feed but they will push back. I've seen them with other birds like blue jays and cardinals feeding side by side. So they can get along. I think what I like most about sparrows is they seem to be an underdog and are mostly dismissed.

The comments are bleeding heart liberals with an underdog complex. When a hawk does it it's okay. When a starling does it it's not okay. Liberal logic

you are aware that starlings are an invasive species that have devistated the ecosystem and contribute to the population delcine of native birds since they were first introduced right?

Just bought one of your traps. I've reached the end of my rope with them. For years, I put out bird seed for mourning doves and 20 wild bird species. This year, the sparrow have taken over. I never see any other wild birds, unless it's finches eating seed from our flower garden. The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was seeing 30+ sparrows inside my enclosed chicken run the past week feasting on chicken feed in a gravity feeder that is 1' off the ground. The run is 80% hardware cloth, and they found the 20% where it's chicken wire, and they're entering there ALL DAY LONG. We have 3 bluebird nesting boxes in our yard for a decade now and in previous years a Carolina wren always nested there. But this year, we only had sparrows nesting. And they roost in this large semi-tropical Aucuba bush next to our house that is 9' tall. I've been chasing them out of the chicken run all week, but I'm done with it. Our organic chicken feed is very expensive and their population is increasing too rapidly, plus wild birds can spread disease to poultry when in confined spaces together. It wasn't until now that I've seen it's a flock of at least 40 of them! Can't wait for your trap to arrive.

3:40 Ingenious how you pick up the metal swarf with a plastic bag wrapped around a magnet. Separately, I made a baffle this morning by sliding a length of plastic drain pipe over the wooden post holding the bird table. The square post at 45mm square was a tiny bit too big for the pipe to slide over, so I took a rasp to the four edges of the post and rounded them off a bit all the way down the post. Not much filing was needed. It took about 10 minutes to file all four "corners" until the pipe slipped over, but was still a snug fit. Since the pipe had been in my garage for five years it was dirty, so after sliding it over the wooden post I gave it a good scrub. My problem isn't squirrels, it's a rat that comes under the neighbour's fence and climbs up the post. The very smooth pipe will hopefully make it impossible to climb up in future.
