I'm a roman catholic, but i love to learn about other religions (in this case, ethnoreligion). You all have a beautiful tradition that reflects a deep love for God. I personally get a lot of inspiration from your filosophy, as i, personally, struggle a lot with God. Anyways, may G-d bless all of you!

To the person who asked about what we do wiuth the piece of bread separated from challah. It is no longer given to the cohenim. Since the burning of the temple, the separated piece is burned. As far as the size it is the size of a ketzisyah (olive).

We did a pidyon ha ben 43 years ago when my first son was born, with the silver coins. This is the first time ive heard of garlic and sugar cubes, and we are Orthodox.
@danielpearl9234 күн бұрын
Same here. This is what I found on Mi Yodeya: Garlic and sugar are spices which last a long time and go in many dishes. Guests can take some home and eat mitzvah food for a long time. They can also share this food with others passing along the mitzvah of attending a Pidyon HaBen to more people. Another explanation is sugar shows mitzvot are sweet and garlic is a fertility symbol.

@SafetySpooon some people get so caught up following the Talmud they forget about the Tanakh.
@danielpearl9234 күн бұрын
To be fair to you, I reexamined the traditions listed in this video. As far as I know, all are taken from the Torah (scripture). About your other comment, regarding the Tanach, as you know the "Bible" or Old Testament is included in it. Then the Talmud is similar to detailed instructions about what is in the Bible (and Prophets, Psalms, and other Books of the Bible.) So Torah and Talmud are always joined.
@J0HN_3_163 күн бұрын
@@danielpearl923 the Talmud represents the opinion of men, the Tanakh comes directly from G-d. The Torah is the first 5 books of the Tanakh.
@danielpearl9233 күн бұрын
@@J0HN_3_16 Yes, very true. But reading the Torah plus the interpretations of wise men illuminates our understanding. The Torah is fixed. We are not allowed to change it. The Talmud is constantly changeable, with new insights based on the older ones. Honestly, I've never heard of anyone who ignores various books of the Tanach while focusing on Talmud study... Still, your caution is a good one! I believe the Jews should do what G-d has commanded us to do: to be like Him and treat the world with kindliness. To Jews and Christians who do not obey the Lord, I personally don't think they should be scolded or threatened. We need to be understanding and loving. Because all living things are very important.
