Hi Martin, thanks for making this and all the other videos! Everyhing about floaters is interesting to me as I am contemplating a floaters only vitrectomy (fov) for a couple of years now after a posterior vitreous detachment in both of my eyes. Good to be aware of the "core" vitrectomy option (my eye doctor never told this to me, i guess because I am older (59 years). Actually they said is was nearly certain that I would get a cataract after surgery. The general risks of the fov are keeping me from having a surgery although the floaters are slowly but steady getting worse. Alexander was saying in the video that the risks should not keep me from having a vitrectomy. Would you agree?
@MartinTheOptometristКүн бұрын
Thanks so much for the comment. It’s been my observation that many of the surgeons that do vitrectomy ops regularly, don’t consider the risks to be much greater than many other procedures. Non-floater Vitrectomy is done routinely for retinal repairs and vitreo-retinal procedures without complications. It’s just that, it may take someone that is experienced in FOV for them to feel confident in the outcomes for floaters only treatment. Hopefully I’ll do an interview with a surgeon sometime soon.

It’s really nice to see comments from people who have had it done. I’m 37 and the floaters are pure distraction from day to day life. I have had a lot of stress this year and have been seeing glittery lights when looking at bright lights. My eye doctor thinks it’s my brains inability to handle the floaters as well as my stress. I just started seeing a therapist to help me cope with the stress but I know down the road I want to get this surgery. It’s nice to read these comments and not feel alone.

I struggled greatly with eye floaters in my late 20s--tried multiple YAG laser attempts, become obsessed with supplements, and eventually had a single core vitrectomy with a great surgeon. The ONLY lasting solution was to slowly learn to ignore them. It may seem impossible at first, but the less you think about them, the less you squint and try to 'examine' them, the more they fade out of your attention. I'm a fan of your channel, Martin, as a long-time sub. But I suggest anyone obsessing over eye floaters to get away from 'eye floater' content completely.

It seems that most people have eye floaters - I think there should be FAR MORE efforts to remove them surgically by removing the gel that contains the floters by replacing them with clear gel - this minor operation should be widely available for people to have them removed.

Sorry to hear about the double PVDs. Those floaters will of course be very annoying. Currently; supplements, atropine and surgical treatments are the options. More on all of these to come on the channel.

Doctor, i have floaters for about nine years, it was very small that I could never see it and it was not negative for my daily life. I visited two doctors at that time and they told me that everything was fine, but this year in the juin month I also went to visit the doctor, and he also told me that everything is fine, but after this visit I noticed that these floaters increased and increased in size!! I don't know exactly why? Is it because of the drop of pupil expansion ?
@MartinTheOptometrist23 күн бұрын
Hi Allam. The reality is that if you have just one floater, it is likely that you will get at least a few more in the coming years because of the changes in the vitreous.
@AllamYassine23 күн бұрын
@ But why this change happened exactly after my last visit to the doctor? And One of my floaters was the same shape but became larger, one of the people told me that it changed its place and became closer to the eye retina, is this possible?

My eye lashes keep getting in the way also my eyes keep jumping contacts keep falling off my index finger
@MartinTheOptometrist8 күн бұрын
If it keeps falling off your finger, the contact between your finger may be a bit too dry. Also try keeping your finger more horizontal and bringing your eye to the lens if possible so you are tilting the finger less. If it continues to be a problem, you may need to be refitted with a different lens that easier to handle. All the best.

COVID VACCINE
@Scorpionwins23Ай бұрын
Look at the ingredients: Grape seed extract and bioflavonoids: While these have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, no studies specifically link them to improvements in vitreous floaters. Lysine and zinc: Important for collagen and overall connective tissue health, but evidence is indirect when it comes to floaters. Vitamin C: Known to support collagen formation and fight oxidative damage, but its specific role in floater resolution is unverified. You can get these as vitamin supplements without the high price tag, and as per the video, I wouldn't hold your breath expecting any meaningful results. Sorry folks, this is just marketing.

But what about the case of nystagmus and treatment with yag laser for floaters?
@MartinTheOptometristАй бұрын
Good question. It probably wouldn’t be possible as the micro tremors of the eye could make accurate treatment not possible. Eyes with nystagmus have inherently low vision anyway, so the individual may not be bothered by eye floaters. Do you know anyone in this position?
@TheOneSixtyАй бұрын
Me. :D I'm quite happy with my vision. You can live quite well with prism glasses. Sometimes my neck hurts because when I have to focus I hold my head to the right side to calm the nystagmus. However, over the past twenty years I have accumulated these floaters to the point where they have become annoying. Especially on the right eye, where it is most of the time in the center of the field of vision. In addition to the fact that this is annoying, it makes the image slightly blurry where there is a floater and makes it difficult for example reading.

If you suffer from eye floaters, let me know what stage in the adaptation process you think you're in. I've been at stage 3, but I'm definitely noticing them a lot more these days. Also, how seriously do think others take your symptoms?
@S_MATIRIАй бұрын
Am past fear , dealing with frustration. The first time I noticed them, I had no idea of what they even were. Just thought it was a speck that would disappear. Of course I visited every ophthalmologist I could find and spent a great deal of money only to end up disappointed. Eventually the internet provided clarity and by watching youtubers like yourself, I finally could diagnose I had eye floaters. Am young though, turning 20. I've had them for like 3 years. After finding out am not a candidate for vitrectomy, am trying to learn to accept them. It has been extremely difficult, I've been thrown into severe depression before but by accepting this is my life now, am finally picking up the pieces and learning to live with them. I got polarized sunglasses which are no doubt a game changer. Am also trying to take bromelain and other eye supplements, to see if my floaters at least improve , as past studies suggest. But my biggest source of strength is knowing that there's a lot of research being done and a cure is coming soon. I mumble to myself that I've got a family and friends who love me dearly, and that is how I start my day, hoping for the best.
@tsheils7717Ай бұрын
I was at 4 and even had an appointment scheduled for a vitrectomy. My dark, stringy floaters didn't bother me but they were enveloped in a blob that really hampered my vision (like looking through glasses with Vaseline on them). I really started paying attention to what made them worse and for me it was eye rubbing (especially removing eye make-up) and bending over and lifting heavy objects. Also, I significantly reduced my sugar intake, maybe just a coincidence, but think maybe that helped (I'm not diabetic). So, now I'm back to stage 3 - just string floaters sans blurry blob, most of the time.
@themusicscene.Ай бұрын
I had floaters from a young age, they didn't bother me. However they got really bad and I was unable to do anything. I was unable to see cars and trucks while driving, I was unable to work. I was very depressed at first, I then started to come out of that stage and rationalise the situation, however even though I felt mentally better, I was still unable to see houses and cars due to massive blobs, I also had lines and dots. I gave it a few years and still was not working so I decided on vitrectomy.
