Snow storms have lost power for up to a week snow too deep to drive your car. Mini alternatives to heat natural natural gas Big Buddy propane heaters can cook outside on your barbecue or your Coleman stove. Pretty easy to have a lot of a blankets and sleeping bags especially if you have camping gear. Coleman lanterns hurricane lamps all can promote to a heating your home. Keep your freezer closed it should be good for 3 days in your fridge should be good for a day or so. When there's lots of snow will haul all the food out of the refrigerator and packing snow on the deck and use the most perishable food first. I do have some solar lights but in the winter it's pretty hard to get them charged up enough. There's always generators gas or propane powered or others. Also if you have an available battery from the car and an inverter you can bring it inside you'll probably need about 1200 w to be able to jump your furnace motor but it won't won't go with might go with seven. My 700 w will run a TV for days we try to use a smaller TV but the newer ones don't use as much power can also use your computer or charge your phone. I wouldn't use it to run cooking appliances as a suck too much out of the battery I'd rather save it for other uses An idling car can't recharge a battery donut the best way to do it. Also that battery can run a few lamp some low-level lamps with these new bulbs. So you got a lot of alternatives available here. Never been a paranoid about attackers coming to my house the we have appropriate locks and security devices. Plenty of dry food stored we're probably good for months and 80 lb German shepherds don't hurt

Learn from people in the past who faced long term isolation and thrived. For example, men at sea for long periods. The ship captains would pick a diverse crew and preschedule activities to keep everyone occupied. Having a person with farming or gardening skills who would give classes on growing food. Another would teach a foreign language. Another might teach basic engineering. Another might read a book and instruct the other sailors on what he learned. Another sailor would instruct in physical fitness. Movie night was very popular among these groups. Physical fitness classes were very important as it keeps everyone moving and physically occupied. POW's and persons imprisoned for long periods of time also use these techniques to occupy their time and maintain mental health. Card and board games are good activities. Charades can be played for many hours using themes such and movie villains, historical figures, animals, occupations, etc... A long term chess or checkers competition can be very challenging and fun. Bible study, discussions, and religious observances are another excellent activity. Sitting and staring at the walls will only lead to tensions and eventual conflicts that will lead to the breakup of the group. Maybe planning for a long term bugging in scenario could be the subject of a future video?

Mental fortitude is critical, you could ended up with an accident and a fractured leg is all it takes for a 8 to 12 weeks bug in bed ridden and having to use wheelchair. Your bathroom routines will be turned upside down. Resisting the urge to walk when your bone is healing during the first few weeks is very difficult without mental fortitude. Most people requires second surgery because they couldn't hold back their urge.

We're bugging in right now because of all the viruses floating around (i have rheumatoid arthritis and my mother has lupus). I can definitely say the cabin fever is killing me. I haven't been off our property for nearly a month. We still have access to what we need, we're on well water and the pantry is fully stocked. It would be nice if the snow would melt in order to spend more time outside.

Wonderful information! I feel I have done everything I could possibly do to last or bug in for long periods. From food, water, medicine, first aid packs, power, cooking, lights, protection, sanitation, entertainment for down times (Books, games-cards-puzzles, etc.) Security, fuel, communication ability, Exercise room inside. I feel like I have done everything possible to prepare for the long run. Hope I NEVER HAVE TO USE ANY OF IT!

Thank you, brother, for sharing another one of your great videos. And when you mentioned burning waste you should have a bucket of water so can grab it if something would happen. And i agree it is a challenge bug in for a long time and at the end it might be the best choice rather than bug out. The advantage to bug in is higher because you are in a well-known area and you know your home even blindfolded and it is much easier to defend compared to bugging out because it is a higher risk to make that choice. And bugging in if you have a house that will definitely have it is own challenges but most of the time it is better. Bugging in an apartment will definitely have its own challenges and especially when you renting it because you can´t do that much yourself and repair things that might break. And if you do and everything gets back to normal again the landlord can make you pay for what you have repaired if they have to do it again. And on the other hand, you are more like of a sitting duck in an apartment compared to if you are living in a house. Because you have more exits in a house and you have only one entrance and one exit if you live in an apartment and it can be even trickier if you live on the top floor wich i do. I have shared your video out and a 👍as usual for you.

my farm owning older brother, in Illinois 20 or so years ago, got a State job ensuring that farmers actually DID plow-under clover as they were supposed to, getting taxpayer dollars for, etc. He'd lived in that area for 60 years. He had to look at aerial photos and go check on this or that. Not only were there homes within 10 miles that he didn't know where there, there were ROADS that he didn't know about, just as close Nobody knows who their neighbors are. Anyone can walk 15 mles in ONE night, ride a bicycle 50 miles on back roads in one night. You have no idea what will go down once shtf, other than it will be a horror show for everyone

the viet cong lived in tunnels for 30+ years, and for the last 10 years, vs the US, those tunnels had to be 30 ft down, due to 500 lb bombs being dropped on them. Even US wusses should be able to live in a tunnel for a year, with just 12" of dirt overhead. That's all that will be required in order to outlast 99% of the population You can dig that tunnel at night, AFTER the lights go out. Create a couple of spideholes NOW, 20m apart and dig from both ends, halfway thru, expand the 2x2 ft tunnel into a 3x3x8 ft sleeping chamber and turn-around space Just cause somebody finds one lid does not mean that they will find the other, and nobody['s entering your tunnel. doing so will be suicide 'Put 22 lr noisemakers on each lid. when you detect dogs or men at one lid, crawl to the other lid, peek out and silent-22 them. Then move 10miles and create another tunnel. Every 2 weeks, at night, of course, you can return to your cached food for a packful

Lol, you seem to forget that NVA and the Viet Cong lost around 1.1 million combatants. The tunnels were rendered useless as well, by the B52 and Arc Light and tunnel rats. Please espouse some more wisdom by only saying half the story about how successful they were.

@@jb7483 they did just fine in the tunnels. The US wasted billions of $ on that bombing and LOST the war, in case you're too dumb to know. The Cu Chi tunnels are national monuments today and a 70 sq mile area had millions of tons of bombs dropped into it. They had people in them for the entire war vs the US. @@Edward-op3yc if yoou're not working hard out in the cold, wind, rain, you can go withut food for 3-4 weeks. The world record for fasting is 13 MONTHS. google it. A 450 lb man went down to 180 lbs. The problem will be no WATER, None to drink or cook with and none to fight fires with. So the city folk are going to be forced to leave in short order. Starving dog packs will be feeding on dead people and soon attack the living. regardless of how much food you have, you're going to freeze your butt off it it's winter. Garbage and sewage will not be dealt with, which means rats, fleas, typhoid and plague in short order. , when, not if, shtf, the cities will be death-pits and everyone will be forced to realize that in a week or less.

I think a lot of rural people think they will be safe. The reality is, that once the cities run out of resources, the city dwellers will raid the countryside. At that time, there won't be any friendly exchange. Everyone will be out for themselves - making if a far more dangerous time for homesteaders.

They dont butcher their own meat, etc. They buy their food at walmart, just like everyone else does. that stuff has been gone for decades, man. How long is Clean water safe to Drink, say you have water stored for 5 years and then you need to use it. Is 5 year old water safe to drink?
@reliableprepper
@reliableprepper Күн бұрын
If it was stored properly in food-grade containers, kept out of direct sunlight, and sealed tight, it’s probably safe to drink. But after five years, it might taste stale due to oxygen loss, so giving it a good shake or aerating it can help. If in doubt, boiling or filtering it before drinking is a good call. Always worth checking for any signs of contamination too.

It is well worth the fuel to Immediately pressure can EVERYTHING in your freezer and fridge. Wood cook stove, Rocket stoves, Propane burners are great examples of what to Can on. Heavy duty cleat vinyl (same weight used for furniture covers) hung between the freezer or fridg door and the food compartment will save a lot ofcool when you open the door. In fact, during my last power outage, I sketched a quick map, by shelf, of what and where things were in the freezer and fridge . (You could use your phone). Saved lots of standing and staring with the door open.

That is brilliant, good call on the map too. Being able to grab what you need fast without keeping the door open forever is a game changer. And pressure canning right away is a solid move-definitely saves a lot of food when the power goes out.
