I'm 24 years old and I want to study marine biology all my life, but my parent won't let me. Just want me to stick being a lousy painter 'cause of my conditions. I just want to do something different and new, something I want to do and love to do before I die.

Hello Mel! I know this video is like 5 years old at this point, but I would like some advice. I am 23, and I am currently self studying to become a marine biologist, "specializing in poisonous and venomous anything". The reason why I am self studying is because I cannot afford to go to college even to get my jen-eds done. Would you happen to have any advice as to how I can afford to go to college properly with a full-time job? Do you happen to have any college recommendations?

School failed me,, see,, im in Canada and was stuck in a very abusive class for troubled kid,, somewhere i was not destined to be because im just really emotive,, (actually in the autism spectrum),, and im really really obsessed on Nudibranch but i also know a lot about the different Echinoderm and Cnidaria and other Gastropod,, i even know some about Arthropod (hate spiders and yes i know about the Pycnogonida but i like them) but i really dont know how to go back in school,,, its really draining for me and stressful,, and everytime i tried to go back they were kinda,,, not really accepting of my multiple problems,, plus the fact that i finished my primary school and thats all (21 years old),,, actually everything i learned was from TV and internet research,,, School really failed me,,, i live in Lanaudiere and the closest place where i could really learn Marine Biology is in Montreal or Quebec,, i cant live all by myself,,, i cant even cook and its impossible to get an appartement in big city ! i feel really stuck,,, i took so much time finding what i wanted to do and end up not knowing where to go,,, or how to go

I am coincidentally in the same position you were in! I’m in Ontario and planning to go to The Memorial University of Newfoundland. I’m in Grade 12 and taking a Grade 13 to get a few more credits. But I’m not quite too sure if I need to take both Calculus and Advanced Functions. Do you know what courses are the mandatory ones?

I'm really looking forward to seeing your other playlists about marine biology, because I really enjoy the clearer explanation you give to your viewers. Also, when you spoke about eco-friendly stuff, I decided to get eco-friendly glasses sense I lost my other pair 2 weeks ago, so hopefully they come in quicker lol.

Thank you for the series! I have a bachelors of science in biology and a doctorate in veterinary medicine and naturally have piqued an interest in more schooling in the form of marine biology. I'm an advanced certified scuba diver and have had a special interest in coral for many years and the idea of aiding in research at some point excites me! Being 30 years old and having a full time hospital career at the moment, I'm definitely finding it difficult to figure out where to start. Are there any virtual introduction marine courses you would recommend for someone interested as an adult learner in seeing if this is a field they have interest in pursuing?

Awesome video! I didn’t realize they also had a 5 arm pattern like starfish and sand dollars; all those spines really obscure that fact How do they grow their shells and what material is it made from (I think it’s calcium carbonate? Is it the same material as oyster shells, or maybe significantly different) specifically, do they build up their shells from calcium dioxide? And let’s say that there are millions of zombie urchins on the sea floor… could their shells be crushed into something useful?

Hello! I'm currently a highschool student and ive been stressed out about what to do as a career. I absolutely adore the ocean, especially when it comes to mammals! My favorite marine mammals are seals and I love them so much!! One issue though, I dont know how to swim, so to become a marine biologist, do i need to know how to swim?
@MarineBiologyMel8 ай бұрын
Hi 👋 lompxi326, thanks for reaching out! Some marine research takes place underwater so knowing how to swim is an asset! But, no, you don’t need to know how to swim to become a marine biologist. Most ocean research is done from a boat, in a lab or using computer programming and tech. If you can get swimming lessons, great - it will help you understand the ocean better because then you can go and experience it for yourself! Breathe easy - you got this either way! The ocean needs you just as you are. Keep at it. I agree, seals 🦭 are awesome! 😎

My parents talked me out of it because they were controlling and didn’t want me to move out of the house. They also told me that if I moved out and went out of state to college that I was on my own and they weren’t gonna pay for anything. So I was terrified at 18 years old from a very small town with zero resources for college, except for our local community college. But now that I’m 36 it’s time.
