once listened to Tom Dowd, the engineer, about the recording/editing of this iconic live album. He credits the band for their terrific Fillmore performances requiring very little post production.

@@groverw7507 yep. that’s a point from my book that really bothered one guy in an ABB FB group. Dowd didn’t have to do a lot of work as producer, the work had long been done. He just had to make sure and capture the moment. Duane NO about Juicy Carter was about the only producer-level decision he had to make. Every song was one take, Doucette’s solo excised from Stormy Monday, and two different versions of YDLM were stitched together. www.longlivetheabb.com/i/119920793/the-set

It's telling that the great rock promoter Bill Graham's favorite act and the one he chose to close his Fillmore East venue was the ABB. The great recording engineer, Tom Dowd, innovator of multitrack recording, also said his favorite band was the Allman Brothers!

Dickey - Warren magic was still there in 96. Both leads are outstanding. Dickey’s handoff to Warren was perfect . Jaimie, Butch , Allen and Gregg’s work opening up the holes allowed the band to majestically take that ball into the end zone . This is a killer Dreams !

The original ABB was the best live band I ever saw. A friend who went to the Atlanta appointment Festival in 1970 came home and told me how amazing this band was. Which is pretty impressive when you see a list of all artists who played there. It took me another year before I got the chance to see them. I saw them twice in a four month stretch. They were the best sounding and coolest looking band and I was especially proud because they were Southern boys. I loved the sound of Duane and Dickey’s playing totally different until they played in unison which made the hair on your neck stand up.

Yeah Bob…it’s the worst. Knowing the great music ABB was capable of makes Brothers of the Road a chore to listen to. I bought the cassette way back early ‘80s and only listened to it once or twice in 40 years. This is what happens when people like Clive Davis get involved. If he just let the band do their thing and kept his filthy hands off of it, it may have turned out half way decent…but that synth. Good grief.
@MDavidG1

Brothers Of The Road is definitely worse than Reach For The Sky. The latter, in addition to having Jaimoe playing on it, has 'So Long', the Betts instrumental 'From The Madness Of The West', and 'Mystery Woman'. Pretty good songs given the times. The album also has several terrible clunkers, but IMO every song on Brothers Of The Road is a terrible clunker. Watch Gregg lip sync 'Straight From The Heart' on Solid Gold if you don't believe me...

From the Madness of the West is a hidden gem. A little too fast for my taste, but a killer composition. the only charted drum part in ABB history. Butch shoulda earned a co-write on that one.

I've only ever been to 1 show that was recorded and that was recently. Before Kenny Wayne started his last tour, the one celebrating the 25 year anniversary of his 2nd album, called 'Trouble Is...', he did what was supposed to be, AFAIK, just a single show here in his hometown of Shreveport, LA. It was UNBELIEVABLE. But they recorded that for a DVD/Blu-ray release. He said at the beginning that they may do 1 or more songs over since they're recording it but they ended up not having to. One thing that did aggravate me was paying for a DVD for 1 specific song and THEY TOOK THAT SONG OFF THE DVD! It's the only song from the entire show that wasn't on there. So I was extremely aggravated after waiting 11 months for it. They seriously took the best song of the entire night off of the DVD. Why? All I can figure is because Kenny almost went into feedback one 1 single note he was holding. Besides that, it was AWESOME. The stage was filled with his Dumbles in Fender clothing and it was glorious. God they sounded incredible. I was watching the live stream of the show they played the next night and I made a comment in chat that "I bet I was the only person there wondering how many of those amps are Dumbles". His dad, Shotgun Ken Shepherd, answered me. "All of them are". I had no idea. I thought Kenny only had a couple. Nope. IIRC, Kenny saihe has something like 11 Dumbles in his most recent Rig Rundown that they did during that tour. All those white Fender amps he uses are actually Dumbles. They were either modified or completely gutted and rebuilt like Howard wanted. For example, his Bassman head has at least 2 channels with Dumble on one side and a Marshall circuit on the other.
