I saw them live probably 8 times from the early 90s to the early 00s or so. they were amazing every time. seeing them live was so much more than their studio recordings. for most bands, the long solos were not all that welcome - time to go take a leak and get another beer, but the allmans were different. they would play for well over 2 hours, sometimes 3, but you only heard maybe 10 or 12 songs. every song was designed to have a long instrumental break where Jaimoe would trade fours with Butch, Dickey would solo, then Warren or Derek with Warren. and it wasn't so much blues, or soethern rock, it was free form jazz for the most part, with blues/rock vocal parts at the beginning and the end to tie it all together. easily my favorite band to listen to live.
