I am also looking forward to more videos, Matt. I am specifically looking for an M1084 for the crane on the back to use as a business and to crane on and off a habitat when I want to use it on the Maine logging roads to camp. Did you ever use your crane, or did you just remove it and get rid of it? Thanks.

thanks for the transparency, is dirt legal still working for you? I know driving through CA can be a pain, and im sure WA is becoming the same way
@M2-Expeditions22 күн бұрын
@theak-1663 I have had no issues driving the truck with Montana plates in Washington. The truck is registered, has up-to-date and non-expired license plate tags, has a legitimate title, and is for private use. It fits all the necessary criteria to be road-legal.

I started my LMTV build before I even knew to film it, but soon the story will be posted and ....... all the other good stuff. Blessings and Build-On! :)

Question - insurance, who will insure this as a truck? As a RV?.
@HuffTraxx2 ай бұрын
Our LMTV - Overlander is insured with Hagerty - we might be grandfathered in tho as I know they changed some of their underwriting guidelines

There’s a zerk behind the front tire for the universal joint there. You have to turn the tires left or right and roll the truck forward or back to get to them.

Hey @flir67man84! Thanks for the comment! That is a great idea! I have been tight on time lately because I am in the last 2 months of my master's degree, once I am done with that I will have more time to dedicate to this channel. I was planning on making a better intro, better overall video structure (making a script, talk during the videos, etc). More to follow!

Your resevoir is a heat exchanger, as has been pointed out. What about disconnecting and reconnecting the bowl heater in the fuel filter assembly you removed? There is another, more important fuel filter just to the right of the one you changed. It should be a CAT 1R-0751 rated at 2 microns and is far more likely to plug up and cause the engine to stop running. The one you replaced is a 30 micron filter and almost useless. A R45T is 10 micron and should have been installed instead. Just removing the mounting bolts for the filter head would have provided enough room to remove the filter assembly (no need to disconnect any fuel lines). I own a 2000 LMTV, have 50 years of automobile repair experience, and I am a professional mechanical engineer.
@M2-Expeditions4 ай бұрын
Never doubted your experience! I actually just changed out the fuel filter you mentioned. I still havent made a video for it as I am in the process of finishing a masters degree and didnt have time to do the editing. Only 2 more months then I can dedicate more time to this truck and future build. Ack on the heat exchange and good copy about no need to disconnect fuel lines.

I've thought about doing exactly what you've done (same model truck and habitat framing) and wondered how (or if) you are planning on addressing frame and habitat flex? I was thinking I would free the upper frame rail and add spring capture mounts between the rails with a hard mount in the rear.
@M2-Expeditions5 ай бұрын
@chrisszabo553 for my situation I'm not going to address the frame/habitat flex. I'm going to add support inbetween the 24" post and wherever I can. I'll also try to keep most of the habitat weight center line of gravity to prevent the truck from tipping over. I don't plan on doing any real serious offroading with the military truck because it won't ever be as capable as a jeep or 4runner. Not trying to trash my nice truck 😅. Also, most people that own these types of trucks never really do routes that require the flex. You might flex on 1% of the journey and to me the return of input did t seem worth it. I'll make sure to do a good route study before I commit to a major trip

Thanks for the info in the video. I have interest in the 2.5 ton LMTV and videos on costs are very difficult to find. I would like to see more content on maintenance and the costs involved to help make an informed decision on this being a platform for me.
@M2-Expeditions5 ай бұрын
@nicholasflanders1309 the one year anniversary of me buying this truck at auction is coming up, I'll do a one year cost break down. It will include cost of buying the truck, normal maintenance for the truck, tools I bought, diesel, etc

I definitely agree! Soon enough I'm going to start building out this habitat and the real transformation will begin. I still have a little bit more maintenance to do. Still have to replace fluid in transmission, transfer case, and differentials. Plus I still have a little oil leak after replaced seal on oil pan, I believe it is coming from one of the seals at the top of the engine.

There is a reason all manufacturers use quicknuts, clipnuts, cagenuts, speednuts, and NOT RIVNUTS.
@scotty3621007 ай бұрын
The best thing about riv-nuts is that they will ALWAYS fail and spin when you are removing them! you will destroy the entire panel, and door when they do in order to get the screw out of them when they do fail.
