Catching up, this is a great one. Both characters that know when to fold and those that will die for their ideals or something else are super interesting. I just finished rewatching 0083: Stardust Memory and there are characters on all isles of this discussion, really good watch.

Im totally not agree with your reasons.. but the subject im 100% on same page. as a male, i don't and i can't play as a female cuz i can't understand them their motivation, feelings, things they do.. and i should not have to understand.. cuz im a man.. I don't like teenager characters either.. mostly i go with broken protagonists, troubled ones. and in rpg specially, i want him to be exactly like myself, my friends say you never play a role how your favorite genre is role-playing then? and i always say im playing myself.. i want to see what happens to me if i were there, in that universe or are my motifs really pure?? im a good or bad person in eyes of ppl?? im a hero or a villain afterall?? and that really helped me become better version of myself and stay true, no matter the consequences..

women soldiers isn't that weird honestly. they make better soldiers because they are good at following orders. which is 99% of what you do in the army. obviously they don't make for good infantry men (women?) due to obvious reasons.

Great conversation. Would certainly like to watch you guys do an in-character / 4D cross-over game at some point. Would be very interesting to see how the styles combine at this point. And even wilder, if leaders of each community could play well together, then the rest of us might be inspired to try the same thing!

I've learned that the best way to do horror is to treat the "unnatural" in the same way you describe everything else to the players; as soon as we start "amping" up the descriptions of something unsettling we end up warning the players that some degree of horror is coming up. As a species we rely a lot on pattern recognition and any violation of normal patterns sets us off. That kind of uncertainty is way more unsettling than any rattle of chains or ghostly moans. To give an example: it's 6am, and after the player describes his character entering a room, you the Gm say "It's a living room, it's dark and in the corner on the right there is a woman with dark hair staring at you." Soon as the player describes any action they take, "She turns to her right and walks through the wall." Same with unnaturally displaced objects, always do it casually.

Just bought this, and I annotated the first 75 pages. My main games have been Mörk/Cy_Borg and Cyberpunk Red and Burning Wheel was written in a combative ponderous way as if its creators were moonlighting their disdain for any readers of the work. I would enjoy a lot of the mechanics. I think they seem fun, but the terminology was so obtuse, and having reference charts slows that game so much. I like the game mechanics enough to see it through another session, but I feel the book needs both rule simplification and reformatting because having the middle of the book lists is just annoying.

There is a game called "Streets of Perils" that seems to take a lot of the good mechanics from Burning Wheel and cut the needless bloat. I have it here but I haven't looked too much into it. Eventually, I will make a video about it.

When I play as a character in a videogame, personally, I am not trying to immerse in the character, so let's say i'm playing a mario game, I look at the screen and think "That's mario, the plumber", I don't feel like a plumber when playing mario. The same way, in games with female and male characters I play the character i find most fun, regardless if it's a man or woman
