The men sent up the kloof were from the Fife Yeomanry, and Royal Devon Yeomanry ( 27th Coy, 7th Battalion, I.Y. ), commanded by my great-grandfather, then Captain William Edward Thomas Bolitho ( known in the family as W.E.T ). Brigadier Clement's intention was to reinforce the hard-pressed Northumberland Fusiliers in the four picquets at the top of the cliffs, but they were far too late. / Yours is the first video of the area I have seen, and helps me get an infantryman's eye view of the area. I had thought the kloof steeper, and hope to see video of that one day. / As was said, they made their long way up to near the top, where they were cut down by Mauser fire. W.E.T. was hit in the thigh, and lay out with his men for 2 days and 2 nights, before capture. I was unaware of the use of explosive bullets, though had he been hit with one, I think it would form part of the story/ He was awarded the DSO as consolation, which he later received from King Edward. / He remained in the Royal Devon Yeomanry, but did not go abroad in WW1, instead commanding the 2nd/1st Royal Devon Yeomanry, a home security / training battalion, later sent to Ireland. Maybe the effects of his wound in 1900 prevented him going abroad. Worn out by four years in command, he fell ill and died aged just 56 in 1919. / Nooitgedacht is a very interesting battle that deserves to be better known. "Well done" for searching it out! The men who suffered and died that day deserve recognition. On both sides. /

That's fascinating, thank you so much for your input, I would be very proud of an ancestor such as yours. So Allan (tour guide) said the battle site is now a private hunting property but sometimes if you have booked a shoot they will take you to the heights where the fierce hand to hand combat took place, Allan had been up there but years before. At some stage in my youtube feed a video of a group of South African historians were up there, I think they laid a plaque but you could see breastworks of rocks (sangars) built by the british, fascinating stuff.

I was shown graves of women children and old men killed by the carbineers, so I didn't mean to portray them as anything other than characters from history that I and many others find interesting, the fact they are the only sign posted grave in heroes acre is testament to that. Australians have always had a love hate relationship with contraversial characters, Ned Kelly is one. No offence meant.

Edward Woodward played the part of breaker Morant in the fabulous 1980 film. An excellent movie with an account of the injustice directed against the boer famers in South Africa during the conflict and the genocide of 35000 boer men women and Children who died in British government concentration camps from starvation and disease. With Morant and Handcock then used as secrefical lambs to protect the elites of the day

I did put it to the South African historian Charles Leach when he showed me around fort Edward in the Zoutspanberg area (the videos are on here), if it hadn't been for that movie would anyone know Morant , the story or even be interested ?, atrocities took place all through that war. One of the absolute thrills and a lucky one was being allowed into the house in Pietersberg where the first part of the court marshal took place, remember that scene, they march in, stamp their feet, spin, salute etc.. I also interviewed the great grand nephew of George Witton, the other defendant in the case. Thanks for watching.

Middelburg was the attempt to mop up, consolidate power and end the guerilla phase of the war, I think the British used it as a base for that part of the Transvaal. To answer your question, my go to at the moment is 'the war with Johnny Boer' book it has letters from all theaters of the war , some are Middelburg. I also have a book from a local historian from my district, newspaper articles, letters, speeches made of Australians (local Victorians) serving in the Boer War, the Wilmansrust disaster was a big deal in its day, British accused Australians of being drunk cowards, Australian government and local troops objected, Kitchener intervened to settle it.

Thanks for part 3 of your story. I'm only 30 but have been battling addictions for a decade or so. I'm embarrassed to type this and hope you won't take it the wrong day, but I have had horrible self esteem since 13 years old. Feels like a trauma. Anyway I have been addicted to drugs and XXX sites for quite some time now. I feel like a straight guy but I'm very attracted to feminine transsexuals. But it feels wrong. Similar to taking a drug. It feels so good while doing it, but afterwards so much shame, guilt and anxiety. I feel dirty. Do you have any advice for me? It's when I drink or take a drug that I very quickly fall into XXX content. When I'm sober the urge is not as big. Yea, thank you once again. Much respect. Hope i did not sound respectless. Thank you.
@cherrycarter8442
@cherrycarter8442 7 ай бұрын
My attraction to guys was when I drank which happened to be late at night which meant I was going to dangerous places, meeting dangerous people drunk and high when I was vulnerable but that wasn't the issue. Attraction to transexuals or same sex isn't in itself a problem. I was also a chronic wanker, excuse my candour. What you need to do is find out what part of your behavior is fueled by addiction and what is you, you probably have self loathing, that needs to stop. When I stopped feeding the addiction most of the revolting aspects of my behavior dropped off, the worst you have done I could match. Watching 'baby reindeer' this week was unexpectedly insightful, I recommend it. Shrinks and counselors cost thousands and you are advised by someone who isn't an addict, so try and stick at NA , put all the effort into NA as you do destroying yourself, believe me, freedom is the greatest gift I have ever been gifted. You wont be sorry.

Like me when I started you seem to think you have a choice, I suppose you do but what a horrible choice it is, continue living in mental hell to a slow lonely disgusting death or self harm or ..live like a 'normie', grow up, handle life on life's terms. If you are an addict money you spend on drugs can be spent on personal improvements. Most of us drank/drugged because we were pathetic at being social, thats ok .. being shy is fine but you'll find with confidence you can be who you actually are, I still say dumb things I wish I could take back but overall, I can hold my own in conversation , be rational, respectful, I live in a small town as a post op transgender and have never had a bad word said to me because I'm not a moody, angry nut job. I'm nice to others and the town knows I'm the go to for people with addiction issues. Anyways you can try NA or AA on zoom, listen for similarities from speakers or find a home group, question is how bad do you want life to be before you are prepared to change ? I got off the 'crazy train' (thanks Ozzie) before the end destination.

I had tonsil stones, removed the surgically. I didnt floss. Now i floss. I still have diarrhea or just lose stools every day. And acid reflux. Constant bad feeling in throat. Im socially cringe as hell around my parents. Around some people i can talk normally for a while until my energy just runs out and i cant focus anymore. I dont even know if i have bad breath anymore. Ive magnified this problem so much that i just cant talk about it with anyone. Im free of weed and hash since over a month. No caffeine for over a month. Except 2-3 redbull vodkas this weekend. Free from alcohol for two days. Free from nicotine two days. Still in hell. Single, scared, isolated, depressed, suicidal. Extremely negative thoughts. Just out of this world. Chronic pain, inevitably will bring depression. Now you’re dealing with two major life changing issues. I’m 52, I’ve gone through hell, and back, having to live my everyday life with both. As humans, we are able to withstand, and grow after every battle. Literally those words, “What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.” Opiates are scourge. My doctors put me on a low dose of Suboxone, not even a “normal maintenance dose.” Like 0.8 mg a day. “Oh, don’t worry about the withdrawals, they are nothing compared to the opiates you’ve gotten over with before.” Yea right. I stopped using the crap over two weeks ago, and I’m going through hell! I’m glad after years of battles with my own problems with alcohol I was able to conquer that horrible addiction. Thank you for sharing. Our minds are more powerful than one thinks. I’m not one to be preachy, but I know The Lord has definitely helped me along the way with every step. God bless, and Godspeed.
