II'm English, Was in South Africa for about a year and a half. I was in Vryheid and was make an honorary Boer, Learnt about the Boer Wars and the history of the town. Went to Ladysmith, Newcastle, Isandlwana, Rorkes Drift.

oh , you saw some great stuff, if you enjoy military history SA has the lot doesn't it, I went through Vryheid didn't have time or knowledge to explore.

In Canada (about 2000), History Television had an excellent series on Canada's involvement. I have looked for it, but cannot find it. Interesting fact..My Grandmother was born in 1893 (died 1993), and she recalled a school holiday in England because of the Relief of Makefking in May 1900...

you would of been forced in to the army . a fact. non citizens from uk italy etc were told you live here your 19 . many left the country .others just went and did 2 years in the sadf . disgrace using school kids to fight a war 2 countries away in angola . why usa want that.

@@cherrycarter8442 YOU HAD A OZ PASSPORT AND A GOOD YOUTH IN OZ . few of us legged it to europe .we used fake id cards from europe and lived in spain holland gibraltar .very tough times . but we were not joining no sadf .we returned after 7 years april 89 .i watched some of your videos a year ago or so. yes brakpan was and is still a very tough hood to grow up in. oooh yes i got a interrogation on my return to s a by special branch for 2 days.

my great grand mother her grand father started the town of hankey in the cape . .no doubt he started populating the place as well with his pants down. he left after about 8 or 9 years . he went there to build canals for farming as the architect and planner. he was born william alers around 1772.
