Thanks, the majority of my finds i take back and prepare. I still occasionally break open the occasional one for fun 🤩

We only split open the more common Dactylioceras Sp. Found on the Yorkshire Coast which is very common practice amongst most regular collectors. Our more rare examples are prepared at home with our tools. We have lots of new preparation videos on the way we just haven’t posted any yet :) These will include marine reptile remains (skulls and bones) as well as more rare lower and middle lias ammonites 😁🦖🔨

I've watched most of these videos and I've got to believe there's a less desructive path to revealing the embedded fossils. Wondering if there's something like a sonic chisel which would pare away without losing the detail...

I’ll forever be peeved that I didn’t have KZbin or a knowledgable adult to teach me how to find fossils when I was a kid. Unfortunately I was left disabled in my late teens and by the time I could drive myself to the local beaches, I needed a wheelchair to walk for more than a couple of minutes. While my latest wheelchair has amazing off road capabilities with muddy fields, loose gravel, horse sand schools, I’ve yet to test it on the local sand and pebble beaches, as I can never persuade anyone to come along, just incase the chair actually does get stuck, which knowing my luck I’d get stuck as the tide is coming in, probably in a spot that gets cut off or goes underwater during high tide!! While I trust the coast guard would save me, Im more worried that I’d have to abandon my chair in this situation, which is unthinkable as these chairs usually cost a fortune second hand and I only got this one because the guy selling it was unbelievably kind and generous to give me a massive discount on the original asking price, which was already lower than usual! Granted even if my chair can handle the sand and pebbles, there’s also the risk of punctures if going closer to cliffs to fossil hunt!! Just a shame that fossil’s probably don’t have a unique smell, otherwise I could train one of my dogs to go sniff them out, so I could stick to the sand until I know there’s definitely a fossil to be found, reducing the risk of punctures!!! So basically the fossil version of truffle hounds!!!😂

Sorry to hear about your disability. While it’s not the same as hunting, have you ever thought about having a go at fossil preparation? It may be something you would enjoy.
