Awesome find. The other day on KZbin there was a man in I believe was in western Canada . He too was breaking the rocks for fossils just like yourself. But the shell had iridescent colors which are mined as a precious stone. Some worth thousands, I guess it depends on what the soil contents that give it its color.

How does a felt miner's hat get turned rock hard? A concretion Is it a mineralized concretion A mineralized impregnation A mineralized replacement. I'm thinking it would be similar to how a leaf gets fossilized.
