I want Balatro to win GOTY because we need more indie games winning and also it'll be hilarious to see all the AAA dudebros piss their pants in anger. Metaphor will probably win though. If it's Elden Ring DLC, they went really mask off with how much of a joke the game awards really are.

I do think it would be quite interesting if Localthunk took home "GotY," but I'm not sure it would mean much, because the Game Awards are about as prestigious as an elementary/primary-school "Perfect Attendance" ribbon. Publishers by and large, don't care about awards or prestige, when it comes to the development-side of the industry. There's no such thing as a "one for them, one for me" like there is for film. "If I make a big blockbuster that first the studio-standards, then I can garner enough respect to fund a real artistic-project!" "No, you don't. You're the same programming-stooge with a statuette. My goty is metaphor but I wouldn't even be mad if this game won. We need to destroy the premise that x genre can't win GOTY for x reason. Any genre should be eligible, even visual novel romance games

I 100% agree. My father doesn’t play video games at all, but he loves poker so I recommended it, and he loves it. Unfortunately I don’t think it will win, it’s a small indie game =(

Awesome video, although i do think the Elden Ring praise is maybe a little OTT. Its a good game sure, but nothing groundbreaking. I do love Elden Ring, but it isn't that innovative when compared to previous games in the franchise. Atleast when compared to something like Bolatro I just don't think Elden Ring can compare in terms of innovation. Balatro should win partly because it's funny, but also because it truely is the better game. Still, you're allowed your opinion of course. Keep up the amazing content, you definitely earned a sub from me!

I agree. I didn't know about this until the videos for the nominations came out. Had to look it up. I purchased the game less than a week ago and it's already my most played game this year (aside from WoW classic.) this is the perfect deck builder and the rogue like elements are 11/10. This game is perfect.

I honestly believe balatro should get GOTY. Single developer making an absolute GOAT Game with unlimited replay ability, easy to understand interface so any audience can get it. The ultimate, time kill game.

I honestly think that Balatro is the only game that actually deserves GOTY and I am surprised it was even nominated. My opinion about Erdtree is less that it was a DLC and more that Elden Ring already won in 2022.

In terms of price to number of hours of fun, balatro blows everything else out of the water. Between the decks, the jokers, editions, seals, stakes, challenges, seeds, boss blinds , and hand types, there's no limit the runs. In terms of accessibility, it is $15 bucks and can run on anything. Anybody has access to the game, and the rules are simple enough that anyone can play it to great success. Balatro deserves GOTY more than any of the other games, AND it would be hilarious to see people freak out about it.

I started playing Balatro because it was nominated for game of the year and I heard it was a sleeper, and I'm so glad I did. I am a huge FromSoft fan and I love their games, Shadow of The Erdtree is absolutely stunning, but at the end of the day I did leave it just feeling that it was just more Elden Ring. That's not bad, Elden Ring is an amazing game and I'm glad FromSoft got the recognition they deserve. But I just think that Balatro is absolutely groundbreaking and it's their turn to get that recognition. They could have easily threw a bunch of microtransaction garbage in there with all the fun deck mechanics, and I'm so glad they didn't. It costs $10 to get this endlessly fun game, and most games I've spent $60+ on haven't given me this level of fun. Balatro should win.

Honestly one of the biggest robberies in this game award show isn’t even that Sote is in GOTY nomination (I agree that it should be there though remember Blood and Wine? Yeah nobody batted an eye at that expansion being in GOTY so this is fair game). It’s that Sote didn’t get NOMINATED FOR BEST SCORE AND MUSIC!???? Sote ost is THE best game ost I’ve ever heard in my life, it’s a culmination of just incredibly composed pieces that rival The Old Hunters. I cannot believe it wasn’t nominated, it could EASILY be swapped instead for all the current nominees. I don’t agree with an indie game beating all the other nominees being funnier than Sote winning. Balatro is definitely one of those games where it's the most fun thing in the world for some people and nothing special to the rest. Its amazing to see an indie getting this much praise and I'm sad to not be able to enjoy it at all.

It seems like some of your reason are agenda driven. You have to ask yourself whether the game is actually the best. I don't care if the developers are bad. Was the game good? Elden Ring DLC is on par with a full game, and that's entirely unique. It deserves to win IMO, but at least it deserves the nomination.

Hey, if this guy still dos these, what does he think now the DLC has dropped? Id say this theory is correct, except Melina and Mesmer were both stolen from the GEQ and raised by Marika as he own. Thats how Melina can have all the GEQ traits without being her, it was her mother, who Marika defeated with maliketh, when she was chosen by the fingers (and provided a shadow) but before she ascended. This would also explain why Mesmer and Melina are linked by fire, and as brother and sister, it can explain why Marika was so quick to hide them (one in the realm of shadow the other locked away under the grand lift. My theory is we get the O mother gesture from the figure next to the snake skin in bonny village, as this may be the defeated GEQ, and the snake she inhabited, and mesmers true mother, hence the gesture. Dead without ceremony, in the outskirts of the same village marika's people were slain.
