I remember my friends and I used to buy the original Cabalero Vans and cut the high top ankle section a bit lower and then duct tape around the top. We were stoked when they released the Half Cabs. I also skated the Vans Chukka Boots a lot after watching Matt Hensley skating them. I liked the look and feel but they got tore up pretty quick.

My favorite method of breaking in shoes for skating is just wearing them casually for a week or 2 before actually skating them. Especially vans, they really mold to my feet perfectly that way

Half cabs have to be extremely broken in and they’re gold. Like wear them for a month before skating them. Give it a week though they’re hard to really break in.

I wear Reebok Kamikaze “Shawn kemp” basketball shoes. In 1986 Vans cost $50 and last years outdated Jordans cost $27.50 so that is when I switched over to basketball shoes and never went back to Vans. Even the Pro skaters in the Chin Video did the same thing ha ha

The Jerry Hsu Emerica mid shoes are my favourite shoe of all time. They were much like a half cab but they were way more comfortable and, at the time, had better insoles. I tried half cabs afterward and I was super disappointed. That said, I do love half cabs, they just don't live up to those Hsu Emericas.

My favorite skate shoes are Vans Kyle Walker Pros and Nike SB Dunks. I'm hearing amazing things though from NB Numeric and Asics however!

I’ve skated half cabs exclusively for the past 5 years. Def a great shoe. One critique tho is that they’re not breathable and my feet get sweaty.
