This is very confusing. If Utah has a housing shortage, why was over 110,000 new residents from across the border allowed into Utah. Where did you put them and what do you plan to do with them? That situation sounds like there was a much bigger housing crisis created. In our very small rural town, I noticed a rental that is housing at least 10 men living in one run down house. There are cars parked all over the front yard on the grass that is now turning to dirt, because they can't fit that many cars in the driveway. These are all men working in our community now. Not one woman or child resides there. Where will they live when they want to start families in Utah, working low paying construction jobs? How will they afford the housing and other sky high costs in Utah? I did the math on homes at the $400,000 range. The payment with taxes and insurance, not including an HOA, if there will be one, at a 5.98% interest rate is $2,885. per month, plus water, sewer, and electric. It is projected that property insurance rates, along with all utilities are going to sky rocket and have already jumped up to high levels that people can't afford. Who can afford these costs of housing just starting out or as you wrote in your weekly newsletter, this is also for emergency responders, teachers, etc. What kind of interest rate are you offering on these new housing developments. Can you be more specific? None of this makes sense.

I agree with everything stated how having friends and family suffer from drug addiction. Treatment centers, whether they are private or state funded, are in general, not the greatest. I have had a family die to contracting an illness during treatment. We need to deal with oversight on treatment centers as well as everything else

There is no such thing as a "book ban" in a government school.
@UtahStories8 күн бұрын
What would you call the removal of Judy Blume and other authors from all public school libraries mandated by our Utah State Legislature?
@utah_koidragon71178 күн бұрын
@@UtahStories Certainly not censorship. I would call that the government deciding that it isn't going to use its resources- shelf space, etc- to provide particular books in their government schools. There might be any number of reasons particular books are deemed inappropriate or not worthy of those government resources: There might be higher quality books with more academic value to the students, the subject matter or language in the books might be age inappropriate, the subject matter might be controversial- meaning parents don't want to have their kids reading it, and/or the public might not want to pay for. It could be that the books are readily available elsewhere. Etc etc. No teacher or school librarian has a first amendment right to teach, provide, or promote whatever books they want. They aren't private citizens in their role in the schools, they are both public employees and agents of the government. And no student or parent has a right to have the schools provide any particular book. Nor does any author have any legitimate expectation that the government will provide them an audience through public schools. If students want to read Judy Blume books, or if parents think it's important to have *their own kids* read Judy Blume books, they are perfectly free to buy those books at any number of outlets. If the government was going around to book stores and telling them not to stock the books, or was pressuring online retailers to hide search results for the books, that would be censorship.

Last I heard, teachers in C.A. could give students puberty blockers without getting parental consent. This is totally an act of trying to turn someone Trans and should be illegal in all 50 states and throughout the world! She may have beautiful blond hair and gorgeous blue eyes, but she hasn't got my vote that's for sure!

I lean libertarian and appreciate this guy getting in the mix, but I wanted to correct your point on the "book ban" as it seems you aren't completely informed on the issue. The books that are being "banned" are not literary books like 'Catcher in the Rye' or 'Tom Sawyer.' They are graphic novels and infographic propaganda such as: 'Gender Queer' graphic novel which depicts teen boys engaged in oral sex, etc. 'This Book is Gay' which depicts the eating of feces as a kink. 'Let's Talk About It: The Teen's Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human' which depicts illustrations of sex and promotes the watching of porn. These books aren't banned from book stores, they simply are not being allowed in public schools in conservative areas for good reason. Calling them "banned books" is like calling Penthouse a banned book for not being allowed in a middle school.
@UtahStories29 күн бұрын
Watch the podcast we recorded with chief librarian of the Marriott library Rebecca Cummings …That’s actually not quite true. The most extreme books are definitely not available in most libraries. I don’t know if any Utah schools have tried to introduce Gender Queer into their circulation. If you do know of any, I stand corrected.. There are statewide book bans occurring, the books included in some district and school removal Include classics such as Cather in the Rye To Kill A Mockingbird, A Brave New World… there are also books that are in a statewide band and I believe Gender Queer and the Rebecca Maas tiles are included.
@BrotherZygos29 күн бұрын
@@UtahStories I wouldn't doubt if books like To Kill a Mockingbird were banned by the left due to racial stereotypes along with Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn etc, and Brave New World because it reveals the socialist plan of globalist oligarchs. The left cries out censorship when Gender Queer is not allowed in a middle school while they do much more to alter or remove legitimate classic literature. I am not in grade school so I have no idea what is actually banned there, but I do know a simple google search of "banned books" will give you a plethora of reactionary liberal articles naming the 3 titles I listed above that they claim are "banned books" in schools casting anyone that opposes their inclusion as conservative homophobes. In reality it is not a left right issue, just common sense as to what young minds should be exposed to as part of curriculum or interest, funded by public money that should reflect the values of the community to which they are appropriated.
@jaytee3baxter13 күн бұрын
So you don't believe teenage boys engage in oral sex? Interesting. FYI, lots of schools districts ban books like Catcher in the Rye, Tom Sawyer, and more. Did you know librarians are actually trained in guiding readers towards age-appropriate reading material? Is anything positive about LGBTQIA citizens considered propaganda? Because they aren't actually recruiting. They're just trying to protect kids from getting bullied or worse, and kids who come from the LGBTQIA community need representation in reading material and school. Their lives may depend on it. Were any of the books you mentioned actually found in any school libraries? This whole thing just seems like an excuse to get parents hot and bothered.

I've spent many a days in the Uintah mountains looking for gold... from panning, dredging to metal detecting... Found color in various places including dredging the south fork of Rock Creek... I also found a chunk of mineralized rock on the Kings Peak trail above Painter Springs and roughly a mile below Anderson Pass... It was on a backpacking trip and wasn't even truly organized for prospecting but for peak bagging... but in the end ultimately if you're interested in geology and minerals there's no separation as you'll always be paying attention.... But the rock was about the size of large grape and clearly was rich in iron but also had copper oxides in it demonstrated by the rich green color on the surface... Just like you'd see at Dyer... Also experienced some high strangeness too...but I could literally write a tomb of the good, the bad and the ugly about my brother and I's time spent in those mountains..... that are some of God's finest sculpture'in... Just remember folks... that the true gold is just being there in those mountains... and the treasure is being in those mountains with your friends and family that you love so dearly. Tell your dear loved ones how much you love them everyday, because one day it will be a last...

This is important history that's sadly being forgotten. A lot of young people, many who are very concerned about environmental problems, often do not know about that time in history: Edward Abbey, and what they stood for and accomplished in the face of so much implacable resistance from Corporate America; which has continued to metastasize, just like Abbey said was the very definition of the cancer cell. Don't believe it? Look at even just one example of corporatism run amok: Elon Musk and his deranged fantasies about mining the Moon, and colonizing Mars, leaving the Earth wrecked by unbridled capitalism.

ken Sanders (although a nice guy) knows nothing about the Rhodes mines, except for what he read in books. And Bob Campbell is a lying douch bag. I know them both. George Thompson was a very good friend of mine, i went on many adventures with him and Dan Tucker. I assisted George when he wood do talking engagements at various organizations, i would be on the side selling books for him. Bob Campbell was just a new enthusiast at the time, now he talks like he's the foremost authority on the subject. I can tell you first hand, that we pulled gold from the Uintah mountains. and we were shown where the sacred mine was, but the old Indian that was taking us there got spooked because i took a picture of Spanish rock, (at the head of the trail in rock creek), which i still have, and thats all it took to end the hike. dont believe anything these guys are telling you. And as for me, I was mentioned in the preface of George's revised book on the subject.

Typical conservative misdirection, blaming the all encompassing boogeyman: government. Rather than greed and society at large. Greed from developers who find it not lucrative enough to build affordable homes (unless given big handouts from government). Society at large since nobody wants their 500k+ home sitting next to a neighborhood of 100k homes. The less wealthy are not to be seen except in service to the wealthy as in your waiter, store clerk, etc.
