I have seen this too. In our case, I think its related to having a local account on the server with the same name as a domain account. When the local user logs in, they get the %username% profile. Afterwards, the domain user logs into that server. Their home directory gets named %username%.domain

sir, good explanation but that example you explained on is not forest environment, it is rather tree environment. As you can see that sub domain in ur tree domain under parent domains have same domain name. In forest environment, multiple tree domains are there with different parent domains connected to each other as one way or two way explicit trust
