Oh man, as a parent I'm tired of people asking me what schools my son is going to audition at! Great tips. I recently talked with Nikki Abissi, a Julliard trombone grad, and Henrique De Almeida, Berklee prof, on our podcast.

I like Strum Machine app. Its great for folk music. Instead of a standard metronome , it plays rhythm chords that you can put in for a song that you're working on. There are libraries of users songs already there as well. You can change the speed.

I've just bitten the bullet and purchased a Samsung Tab S9 Ultra, a foot pedal and Mobile Sheets... it looks like a really good app, but I do prefer the look of ForScore. Wish me luck! Talking of early days I'm hoping the forward facing wide angle lens means I don't need a huge room to film me teaching my students. Things have sure changed since then!

Thanks for the video! So, at which intervall do you start to move the mallet towards the middle finger? Do you use the two tecniques for the right hand as well as you talk about your left hand?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by moving towards the middle finger. The middle finger is always pressed against the end of the mallet shaft.

Have you the time to do a retest of this instrument as of 2023,the video is now 4 years old and I assume the product has evolved a bit since then. It’s just this review is quite damming and it might be time to revisit it.

I returned mine because I was so unhappy with it. It's received a couple of software updates, but the mechanical issues persist, mainly the velocity problem. If you need consistent velocities, I would either get a Malletkat or wait for version 2 of the malletstation. If you just need to trigger basic samples, it's good.

When it comes to Marimba One. You are definitely getting a quality product 1000%. However, i think something that makes this brand the best is customer service and responsiveness from the company. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with their marimba that wasn't fixed or replaced shortly.

@Marimbalogy
@Marimbalogy Жыл бұрын
I've seen this used to great effect with vibraphone players who want to trigger sounds with their mallets back and forth with their instrument. I think "idiotbox" is a silly and unnecessary insult. Some people will find use for this, some people would be better served with a midi keyboard.

how many of these stupid things do they sell at a whopping 1200 and up? its literally a bunch of samples, on a controller that doesnt do an EIGHTH of what a normal keyboard controller can do. they saw that a real marimba costs thousands, so they figure, "well we will just make OURS 1200 bucks then" well hello? KONTAKT should charge 1000 dollars for ALL Steinway VSTs, since a REAL piano if far far more. And lets not forget Drum VSTs.. thats a lot of drum kids.. So they should be about 12k since you get all those acoustic sets. THIS can fail with a power surge, or a spilled cup of coffee. ITS NOT a marimba. PRICE IT AS WHAT IT IS... a one trick pony controller..

I have notice that wth hitting my EM1 pads/bars wth no matter how mellow of a mallet, everytime I strike a key it makes such a thumping sound that drives me nuts, and it cannot be my Stand I do not believe as I have the very best poss. If anyone here has the same issue, can you tell me what you use to quiet the racket? If anyone here has a Malletkat, can you tell me if there is any differ?

If you put it on a hard surface like a table it will be less. If you have it on a piano stand, you're going to get a lot of resonance like a drum.

Finally finished putting all the pieces of this one together (after getting the Permutations book a couple years back...at your suggestion, actually, if I remember right--pretty sure you recommend Mark Ford's Intermediate book to me, too!) and wanted to see someone playing it well. Not surprised that your performance came up :) Great playing! It's interesting, because mine is on my Mode 5, so I'm using M112s for 3&4 and IP 703s for 1&2 in order to get a warmer sound of the glass-ish bars. (which like... I really feel the weight of those 703s by the end of a run of this piece!) Definitely glad I found your recording, though, because I think I was doing 2 repetitions of one of the bits at the beginning vs 3. You also accent the part before going back to the D.S. a lot better than I've been doing and bring the piece out a lot better, so it's really been instructive! :D

I'm not sure if that would mess with the tuning or resonance. Perhaps you can post to some of the facebook percussion groups. I know some of the marimba manufactures are on there and they may be able to answer. You could also try emailing them .
