We listened to this over dinner & everyone LOVED it! Even the toddler ❤️ She did a cute little dance.

Absolutely lovely. And my favorite recording setup I’ve seen / heard on KZbin for a marimba. Vague shadows of a marching band show I once played for ;)

I just don’t know how you haven’t gotten over a MILLION LIKES by now. That’s phenomenal right there! I had to find this after a clipping of it from your video on the best apps for music. I’m playing it again for my pleasure.

Thanks for the kind words! I have a sneaking suspicion that since I have ads disabled, youtube doesn't promote these videos much.

@@Marimbalogy now that’s repulsive if KZbin is actually doing that.

Beautiful! Makes me miss playing this wonderful instrument. :)

How do you choose which grip to use for different pieces? As someone who plays Stevens and Burton, it's a skill I need work on, lol.
@tanner15484 жыл бұрын
Not to detract from Marimbalogy at all, but Adam Tan apparently has a video about that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5nCiqSge7GWnM0 Well...there is also this Marimbalogy video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHTUoH9nmpKkhas
@_cynth_wave4 жыл бұрын
@@tanner1548 I've seen that video, and while there's some information presented it's aimed more towards someone first learning four mallets choosing what grip to learn, and less of what grip to use for different applications when you can play multiple.
@tanner15484 жыл бұрын
@@_cynth_wave It looks like they also mention that narrow intervals are trickier with Burton grip as well as changing intervals.

Hey, I love Adam and I've supported his channel for years now. Hype him up. He's the only one of us trying to do youtube as a full time job!

Well Burton is really good at double verticals and positioning, stevens is really good at rotations. It's kind of a blessing and a curse to know both because you always want to use the other one :) I generally stick to Stevens on marimba and Burton on vibes though.

Have you ever considered getting a cheap marimba for a video if so the cheapest “new” one I could find is on gear4music and it is 600 dollars but three octaves
@Marimbalogy4 жыл бұрын
Wow! That is really inexpensive! I did a video on the Mode Marimba, but now that we have the Mtech, it's a nicer instrument for the same cost.

Do you switch 4-mallet grips depending on what song you are playing?
@Marimbalogy4 жыл бұрын
Yes but that is abnormal ;) I’m relearning it with Stevens and it has a very different feel for me. I’m more aggressive with Burton and more smooth with Stevens

Any idea on what mallets I should use for this solo preferably ones without color differences for hardness
@Marimbalogy4 жыл бұрын
Mallet choice depends on a ton of factors. Most notably, what material bar are you playing on, and how hard do you like to hit the marimba. This piece would sound just find with all medium mallets, I just like the graduated sound.
@ArnyT123294 жыл бұрын
@@Marimbalogy I'd be playing on rosewood while on stage so i'd prefer something with lots of projection but not too hard of an impact sound. Possibly something vibrant and warm that would fit the solo. I'm only freshman so something not too too heavy but weight isnt a big issue.
@ArnyT123294 жыл бұрын
the mallets in the professional recording were ones i considered but I'm not sure if i can even get them as theyre way out of country with different currency even.

do you think this is possible on a 4.3?
@Marimbalogy4 жыл бұрын
It could probably be adapted for it, you'd end up taking a lot of things up an octave. Most of the piece is in the low range, so with some work, it could be doable.
