I have a number of DOL Pressings. I bought them without knowing anything about them. First (Blue Train) on Amazon a couple of yrs ago, then others on ebay. Recently, I started reading all the hubub and Dol and others too like Waxtime, NotNow ect. and how they are inferior. So I bought Blue Note's Somethin Else BN1595 audiophile vinyl reissue and compared it to my Dol pressing. You can barely tell the difference maybe the Blue Note was a little brighter. But I don't think I could tell on a blind test.

The second set of speakers simply don't compare, really "stuffy" voice sound compared to the open baffle speakers. Chalk&Cheese! 😅 Except that the high-hat sound on the open baffle speakers is way too loud and the ride, too soft. Going by how they make the voice sound too "huski". And by my own exp with FR drivers. Speaker builders tend to insist on no filter on the driver. Purists! But with a filter, they can sound right instead of wrong. Not only do I use a filter, I also modify the FR drivers to suppress the high-hat sound and promote the ride (with a balanced approach). A simple filter for this: A 2 mf cap in parl (with a 2 ohm resistor and 0.05 inductor in series). The inductor is to partly suppress the high-hat frequency. It's a two way speaker sound, but with the COHESION of a single driver! Best of both worlds and between medrange and treble is heaven! 🎉 And also dipole for even more space.

I run my FR drivers completely OPEN on top of the boxed woofers. Forgot to mention that, and this explains the dipole thing. 😅

You can tell Eric at Tekton talks out his arse and lives in a bubble, the feet debacle, yet there on their website is a picture of Guttenbergs review and no feet on it. Any company that threatens or talks like Eric does in his response video, should 100% be avoided, Erin did a nice honest review and many looked at the speaker in a positive manner, then we have Eric acting like a mental case over a genuine technical blip. Lets get it straight, Tekton speakers are just well finished DIY nonsense that have a fan base bred off positive reviews because negatives are shut down. Nothing audiophile about a painted MDF box with multiple drivers and holes through a cabinet for feet.

I'm so glad to have found this channel. Your videos have been very informative. I have a few questions if I may. 1. Why did you choose the silver 8 to run in parallel to the f18 vs a fast 8 or a Betsy 8 I saw in other videos? 2. Does the 4 ohm load that results from running in parallel create a problem for the Alan Eaton 45 monos? 3. What crossover settings are you running the W18 at? I'm hearing all kinds of numbers out there ranging from 500hz down to 90hz. Thank you so much.

I've heard that the LII AUDIO Speakers from China are the usual consumer quality. Manufactures of OB Speakers have mentioned that there LII AUDIO Speakers are completely custom designed to their prefrence, and cannot be sold to the publc. In other words, a much better sounding speaker. Another reason for the increase in price.

Wow, i like the open baffles. So clear and open, but a little bit to sharp. (could be my sound system) But the bass and depth feels addicting and inviting when the Klipschs play. They are warm and soothing to the ears. They invite me to joyn them on a journey for hours and a wonderfull time. i would therefore prefer the Klipsch speakers. Im a big enjoyer of warm, pleasent sound while analytical sounds tend to give me headache when i listen for to long. But in the end it always comes down to ur own system. Maybe those speakers sound different in real life. Im listening on my desktop PC, connected to a 24bit DAC, audioquest Evergreen chinch to HVA-8030 and Castle Trent 2 speakers.

I agree with you on the DOL recordings. I have the Miles Daves, & Art Blakey DOL release that you showed as well as the MingusAh Um, however, that was is on WaxTime in Color. They sound great to my ears. I think that one thing that we learned from the Mobil Fidelity situation last year is that allot of pretentious record collectors are easily fooled since we learned that for years their releases that can cost over $100 each were sourced from digital files, and not even the highest quality digital file. I have been collecting music for over 45 years, and while I do prefer music on vinyl, clearly based on the MOFI situation many people cannot tell the difference between a record that is sourced from an original analog tape versus records that were sourced from a digital source. I will continue to buy DOL & WaxTime records because it's affordable, and the sound suits my needs. In terms of royalties, etc, many of these artists have passed away and never owned the publishing for their music, and many were cheated by many of these so-called major labels so I'll continue to choose the records that I can afford. The Art Blakey that you showed I got for $12 used on discofs in VG+ condition and the other records that I have were new and ranged in price from $17 - $23. I've paid for than double for that for records from Blue Note. My only complaint about DOL & Waxtime is that they don't use replicas of the original labels, but I'll deal with it.

Just got one mostly for the headphone amp aspect. And tone controls even though thats a sin. As a headphone amp it is wonderful. The bass extension and its detail are very impressive. I'm only about 7 hours in so it will probably open up more. But I am extremely impressed already for its price point. I was up till 4am listening to music with it. Haven't listened to headphones that long in ages. I wouldn't say its "airy" at all. But it is very detailed while also being very smooth and mellow. Its just really pleasant to listen to. Non fatiguing. I haven't been able to properly test out the phono in yet. Just got a Technics SL-7 that needs servicing. I am hoping it's not how you say it is. But I'm already planning to get the Bellari VP130 Mk2 Tube phono pre that also has a headphone amp. I would imagine it's headphone amp is more or less the same, aside from being tube driven? Probably get a Telefunken tube for it. I'm using the PA550 in an unconventional way, and its wonderful. I have a Wiim Mini that I stream Amazon Music hires (up to 24/192) flac from via a very nice Mogami 1/8" stereo jack cable into the Ch 1 1/8" stereo jack front input on the Bellari. The Wiim Mini is set at 100% fixed volume 800mVrms output from its Aux Out mini jack. 1Vrms and especially 2Vrms was way too much. The Bellari's headphone out amp section has endless quiet power. Everything I've played through it in that setup is seductive and just plain fulfilling. I'm hearing new things in all kinds of music I know extremely well. From Steely Dan (of course) to Massive Attack, Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, and my two favs Nine Inch Nails and Bob Marley. The sub bass extension and detail is pretty outstanding. It legit is almost flat down lower than my current headphones can go (10Hz). Deep bass guitar or synthesizer stuff sounds plain amazing. It puts out endlessly deep & detailed infrasonic bass. Thats my long spiel review from maybe 30hrs of owning it. I did not expect the level of clarity and smoothness it has for something at its price point. Extremely happy so far. Bargain buy at its price just as a headphone amp imho.

They say the LRS plus is better not angled but vertical with stands at 10 inches from ground. Imagine if you use active dsp on LRS plus tri amp and integrated with a stereo open baffle woofers at 80hz or higher- midrange woofers like those in the 1.7x open platform. An issue with reviewers specially YT is their familiarity with acoustic absolute sound is just to be kind minimal, more so with headphone iem equipment. Nice review. A speaker I just can’t use due to room requirements, tsk.

drD E, first I loved the video. Yeah, I know it's been out there a while, but I just discovered it and your channel. Second, I'd like to ask if when using the ST-35 on your Klipsch loudspeakers have you experienced any noise/hiss at the mid and tweeter? I have a pretty high (102db) sensitivity loudspeakers and I am always afraid of amps that may exhibit extraneous noise. Love the ST-35 and was just curious. Thanks for any information you can provide.

The st35 is dead quiet here as long as it’s used with a properly made passive preamp like the Nobsound in one of my videos. Same with the st70 I have as well. The only time any small amount of floor noise might occur is when an active tube preamp is added but it’s only a small amount. Some people have ground loops though but these are extremely quiet. What preamp are you using?

Thanks for sharing. No, there’s no noise as long as you use it with a passive preamp like the Nobsound in one of my videos. Sometimes when you add an active tube preamp, you might experience some noise, but this is mostly due to the preamp, not the amp in my experience. Same with my st70 Kenny made. Some people have ground loops but the st35 is extremely quiet.

Great review. I've watched both parts. I recently bought this same model WV ST-70 amp used, but with the black face plate. Sounding incredible. My question is, how did you conclude that this amp puts out just 25WPC? Sure sounds like more to me. The whole point of the original Dynaco ST-70 title, as I understand it, is just that, ST-70, as in 70 watts total, 35 watts per each channel. Did Will Vincent convey to you that, despite it's ST-70 designation, this amp actually puts out 25WPC, and not 35WPC? --Just asking. --Thanks

Both speakers need work from stock form. There are response anomalies and colorations due to interference effects from overlapping responses of the tweeter and woofer. Move a few degrees and the sound changes. If crossed over the way they should the "ribbon" tweeter should play the treble and not overlap the same frequencies as the bass panels. Likewise the bass panels should be kept out of the treble zone. But on the LRS, Magneplanar has done the opposite... both drivers operate nearly full range with the attendant interference effects as you move even a few degrees around the speaker.

I am with you regarding the rather clinical / sterile sound of some of the current design tube amps. With that said, the orginal Stereo 70 driver board considerably limits bass definition and overall dynamics. Replacing the original 7199 with an adapted 6U8 or 6GH8a I find further degrades the sound. Upgrading this board to either the Triode Electronics or VTA driver board eliminates these issues and makes the amp an impressive performer. This is my experience as a long time hobby builder / restorer who has owned or built around 10-15 ST70, MkIV & MKIII amps.
