I’ve listened to one of the best public land hunters (he’s a big dude) talk about concealment in a saddle and his take is that he thinks deer see people in a saddle as nothing more than another branch hanging off of a tree. Which, if you’re still, I can see what he’s talking about vs sitting in a lock on stand and an unnatural shape up against a tree.
@jhoffman8110 күн бұрын
It definitely has some merit. My biggest issue with a saddle is once it gets stupid cold. I've definitely gotten away with way more in a saddle than a tree stand. Allows me to get in some crazy places. Only coyote I've ever killed with a bow is from a saddle.

I use a small kettle with hickory wood chunks in a pan with a little heater on high to smoke all that venison Sometimes the one down below get a little cooked, which I don’t like, but I rotate them around. I do that for about two hours and that’s enough smoke. I don’t have to take no temperature then I shrinkwrapping that’s the name I was looking for in the other paragraph. Hello, I make venison bologna every year and you’re doing everything in order the same way I do it. After I get it all stuffed I usually hang them downstairs in 60° or I’ll put them in the fridge overnight or 24 hours then I will smoke them in my smoker And then wipe all the moisture off and put them in a canning bag and suck all their out and it seals. “I forgot the name of it.” But going back to the beginning, I get all my meat ground. I storm in bags like 1 quart Ziploc freezer bags or 1 gallon Ziploc freezer bags and I let them freeze for a good week then I put them in the fridge to let them fall. takes about a good three days before they thaw good then I put them in the mixer with all the ingredients I need.

My instant thought was, this guys a douche and needs to stay the hell home on his high horse. Goes to the mountains but doesnt like riding switch backs or high up in the mountains.. wtf? And the way he talked about how do people work or survive.. just straight ignorant. If he thinks HMT trails were bad he better never go to Eastern Tenn. The greens in Tenn are Blues in WV, and the Blues in Tenn compare to reds in WV. Best he sticks to flat gravel roads and corn fields in the Amish country.

It's funny that you're about the only one that is crying about this shit so that tells me that you need to learn a little bit more about where the deer is maybe go further in the woods and figure things out that other people haven't figured out yet so if it isn't fun for you anymore then quit or find somewhere else to hunt. I'm going up to PA December the 5th rifle hunting for the first time hunting in PA and I can promise I'll find deer I am not bragging but if I see your bald headed ass I'll take you and show you how to hunt. Now why I'm so mad at you is because the state own thousands of acres and refuse to let anyone step foot on their land so we don't have public land so just be happy that you have public land to hunt I wish I had land to hunt

I seen more deer this year than previous years. I get a buck every year in early season and I don’t really doe hunt unless I need to. It all depends on where you hunt if there is alot of pressure then you won’t see the deer. But also the more they build housing plans on public land the more deer are going to find a new home sone where else. I also think only one doe tag should be allowed. Who needs 4/5 doe tags. One buck one doe. Maybe even no doe season for a year. I also know coyotes are over populating too. They are killing the fawn before it even gets to be June. I’ve seen more coyote this year also. I’m trying to get them out of there but I’ve never hunted them before so I’m gonna have to learn more about it to downsize the population.

Certain areas of PA just added an additional late antlerless rifle season. I thought the population was already hurting I cant imagine to see the effect fall of 2025. Was in a state land secluded clover field the other night about 3 acres in size. Deer could feel comfortable using it almost all day. There was zero night beds, better yet, zero droppings. Anyone who thinks this is ok can't possibly be in this area. Pockets exist sure but there's vast pieces of land that have such low numbers it's shocking.

What you said is exactly what happened 25-30 years ago with my Dad and I on the public game lands around here since we have Erie and all the city people go to the same areas I joined a private gun club so now I have my own land i can hunt on and the other 100+ members maybe only one other guy goes out there. Thats an option for the guys out there that are frustrated. I belong to 3 clubs in the area up here and all 3 have 20-100+ acres of land available for hunting/fishing to use. The deer up here will end up dead on the road. Besides CWD there is also an issue happening where Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) goes rampant some summers. Happened where I hunt.
