My brain can comprehend up to 4/3 or 3/4 at quick tempo, but even switching between them takes effort - fyi I've ben playing guitar for 15 years and bass for 5 years. The 5/4 just blew my mind!! the amount of time spent learning that is literally priceless

The click track is so wild. In the latter half of the song, why do you sometimes use a 5/4 click and other times use a bar of 5/16?

Incredible. The sound of your stacks and splashes is just so satisfying. And the way you use them here!

Thanks! The stack is so lush. It's a 12" Pure Alloy Trash China and a 16" Byzance Vintage Trash Crash. They're by far the best combo I've discovered.

Jay, fantastic drumming. How does a drummer develop incredible TIGHT levels of time keeping when playing complicated music? 10 years of playing Dream Theater and i'm still dragging and rushing.....

Jay your drumming is seriously an art in and within itself. VERY much looking forward to seeing y’all in Dallas Texas!!! Not looking forward to the 5 hour drive but it’ll absolutely be worth it! Your truly, The drunk long haired dude yelling outside y’all’s bus in Houston Tx hahahaha

Been listening to tesseract for years and as a drummer myself this whole section completely boggles my mind and I imagine is one of the most difficult parts to play in the entire catalogue. I would never have imagined the click would have been anything like that and hearing these mental polyrhyths over a normal click makes it even more of a headfuck xD
@edwardrummer6 күн бұрын
Fucking love getting inside perspective of the click! Absolutely killing it Jay! 👏👏👏

What's the mic in front of your arm that seems to be aimed at the snare and whats its purpose?
@JayTesseracT6 күн бұрын
That's a 'measurement' mic and we're literally using it to get some distance from the snare to add some proper snare sound back into my IEM mix. It's not being used for anything else live - purely for my ears. Snare close mics don't ever give me enough 'body', and live, a lot of the snare power gets lost in the overheads too. So this mic helps bring the snare back to life in my ears, basically.

I tried to play through this about 8 times tonight, such a groove, the click does help with staying on beat better. So good. I can't wait to figure out how to record to show my progress. I'm a beginner but ok with being vulnerable and showing my progress so I can get feedback. Is it ok to record myself playing along with you in the videos and lessons as long as you can hear me since I'm a beginner?
