Great video. How do you like the seat compared to the vantage seat? I really want to demo one. I currently have an Outback, but I heard the ride and stability is pretty nice on the Compass.

Thanks for taking the time to put this informative video together. Two queries if I may. I've seen a new Hobie called the passport. It looks similar. Do you know the difference? Also, where does this leave the Revo? Meaning, does the Revo still have some role, and if so where does it shine?

Sorry for the delay in responding. The Passport series is Thermo formed and designed for the budget conscious. Produced in sheets and pressed on a hot mold. The other models are roto-molded...higher grade of plastic, more features of the kayak are in the mold with minimal self tapping. The Revolution still shines for recreation/fishing kayakers who paddle as well as pedal. It also suits light offshore conditions being sleeker and faster and dryer in wind chop due to the longer bow. @@Rodbendingsworld thanks for that - very informative - I would never have guessed there was a difference in the manufacturing process. Sounds like the Compass is good for calmer conditions where standing may be desirable. And the Revo for light off-shore fishing where the compromise over standing is better handling of choppier water. Still there are times when I'd dearly like to stand. Thank god for those drainage holes! Its comforting to know my Revo 13 is not redundant although I did wonder if the longer Adventurer (16ft) would be even more suited to light off-shore fishing. Interested in your thoughts. I've heard they are more tippy than the Revo 13.

@@tuberider1171 Spot on with the Compass. The Revo 13 has been my pick of all round kayak since it's introduction to the range. The Revo 16 (old Adventure) may feel like it is a bit tippy to say someone has has used an Outback or wider kayak, but with the use of the drop in dagger board, problem solve when going across swell or wind. And sorry to say, we have been advised that the Revo 16 will no longer be manufactured. David

I have a compass duo and it doesn’t track well downwind or in chop. Do you have any ideas on how to get it to track in a straight line better? I want to replace the rudder with the large PA rudder but don’t know how to remove the rudder

The 2022 models come with the Mirage 180 drive with kickup fins standard, camo comes with turbo fins. That makes it an obvious choice for me, since I transport it on top of my Jeep where the light weight is important!

Would you recommend the Compass for offshore fishing? I live on the Kona coast in Hawaii, and want to make the transition from paddle to pedal. I am leaning toward the Revo 13, but the Compass has some nice features. Your opinion on the matter would be appreciated. Go Well.

Hi Derk, I believe the Revolution 13 will be a better option for offshore, or even the Revolution 16 (using the after market drop in dagger board for extra stability and better tracking across wind ). Are you going to hug the coast or head out in to deeper water? David

Thank you, for replying to my question. I will be doing both types of fishing. One travels less than a mile out to " The Grounds" for snapper. However, the hurricane buoys are at least a two mile trip each way. I had not considered the Revo 16. Presently, I am using a 2011 Trident 15, and I have no issues hauling it around. The larger Revo may work just fine with outriggers and a dagger board. Do you have any recommendations as to a dagger board manufacturer? Thank you, for your time and attention to my questions. The one issue I have with this kayak is the rudder design. I load my Hobie Outfitter by first lifting the front of ther kayak onto set of wheels on the boot of my car which leaves the back of the kayak resting on the ground. This would destroy the rudder of the Compass. Also it appears that dragging the Compass to the water's edge could damage the rudder. Rod, can you offer any comments or suggestions.

For people who fish more than twice a week, they might as well spend another thousand dollars or so and buy an Outback or Pro Angler 12.

Id argue opposite. I fish everyday, so the weight savings makes it way easier for me.
