3:34:53 Mike’s MPD was used a running joke on ROTI. It wasn’t meant to be a serious/accurate portrayal. It was purely meant to be funny. As a teenager, I found it funny, but I’m fully aware now that it’s not accurate and any unfortunate implications were just by-products of the “random=funny” sense of humor. On All-Stars, Mike’s MPD is meant to be a plot device. Not much else. It’s kinda weird though Mike’s characterization is “Friendly guy who has MPD.” Without his alters, he’s one of the most generic characters ever.

I started playing Mother after getting a bunch of earthbound videos recommended to me, and omg i KNEW there was something fishy about the run button. it felt TOO good to dart around, and i was certain it had to be a localization thing. it feels so good to have that confirmed LOL. great video i’ve genuinely enjoyed my time so far (with a guide, mind you) and i’m in love with the game’s setting, music and atmosphere! i’ve never played any earthbound game before but i’m planning on playing the sequels soon

I was personally a REALLY big fan of Mike's character, as someone with DID myself. It was the perfect kind of cartoonish portrayal where it's not treated as some kind of weird superpower (despite the multiple instances of Svetlana and the others being a literal deus ex machina) or as some kind of evil curse... Until Mal shows up. All Stars cranks up the ableism to 100, and i will go into why. First, I will get a few things out of the way - conventionally "Evil" alters do NOT exist. What is seen as "Evil" or "Harmful" is a pursecutor - an alter hastled with some kind of trauma that is unable to process it or has a twisted perception of it. They are essentially convinced that they are in the right no matter what and everyone else in the system is wrong. This often leads to them engaging in self-destructive behaviours meant to be self-harm, punishment or detrement to the system's quality of life. They're basically convinced they are MEANT to suffer and make it everyone else's problem. Mal is... not that. Mal is just straight up a sociopath. One that's REALLY bad at lying. And yes, i'm using sociopath here because he is clearly doing all of this for validation, not out of a lack of empathy like a psychopath. He understands what he's doing is wrong and evil, but he is doing it as validation, to "protect" himself and his system. In other words... out of delusion that he is right and the others are wrong. BUT NOTICE HOW I SAID THE BEHAVIOUR PURSECUTORS ENGAGE IN IS *SELF-DESTRUCTIVE*. It is targeted at the system, not the outside world. Secondly... the reset button. The reset button is a very poor and very harmful depiction of one of 2 options someone who discovers they are a system has for a healthy functional life: Final fusion. In essence, Final Fusion is when other alters come to terms with their specific "functions" or traumas and form into one cohesive person. This takes years of therapy and work. A lot of alters simply get comfortable with what Mike had going on before: Functional Plurality, aka just "staying a system" and working things out. This also takes work and figuring out but it notably has a very big vibe of respecting personal autonomy to it. Final Fusion requires the help of a therapist, and due to DID being so very understudied, they often confuse repression of alters, DANGEROUS AND CRIPPLING REPRESSION, for final fusion. I've heard a lot of horror stories first hand of therapists/psychiatrists instructing people to wave their alters goodbye and pretend they don't exist or actively push them away. The way it's portrayed in the show is dangerous for a multitude of reasons but i will keep it brief: 1) It depicts it as a personal choice one has to make through effort alone, which is not how it works, 2) it depicts the act of fusion as something that happens en masse and instantaniously, which again, not how it works, 3) it isn't even consistent because it doesn't absorb or repress Mal, and 4) it fully, without compromise, transfers others' skills to Mike, which, say it with me for a third time now, IS NOT HOW THAT WORKS. Some skills or knowledge can just be permanently lost. The human brain is not perfect and neither is its memory. Oh and Third, the whole dropped "Mal is the original" plot point feeds into some old Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde bullshit i am not even gonna get into. you can conclude from what i've previously said why implying the evil alter who wants to do evil is the original is bad. Overall: The Addition of Mal is ableist as hell towards systems. He as a depiction perpetuates the idea systems are volatile people one wrong incident away from summoning satan in their body to destroy their community and loved ones. It also simultaniously perpetuates this idea that a system is inherently a conartist or a manipulator, where they can at any point choose to be normal and avoid living as a bunch of people in one body, but they choose not to because it gives them an easy scapegoat for any misdeeds they engage in. Mal, much like the rest of All Stars, basically ruins a perfectly fine bit of representation (to be taken with the grain of salt due to the time it was made in) and the least ableist bit of DID representation i have seen in fictional media. Mike was really likable in his season. For a bit i actually did find myself enjoying the stereotypical evil alter storyline. But the button really sealed the ableist deal for me and i'm really sour over it still. I pretend All Stars never happened in terms of Mike as a character. Edit: I'm really thankful for your respectful stance on all of this relating to DID. It's rare to see someone interested in staying respectful 100% of the time, especially towrads people you do not even know or understand. You're a wonderful person.

I think the biggest problem with the takeover parties (other than the advertising-related reasons) is that it immediately dates it. You can look back fondly at holiday parties or medieval parties more easily than a party for a specific Disney show or movie. The hero parties are maybe more passable since the concept of heroes vs villains is timeless, but Monsters University is definitely not.

Even as a kid, the wild puffle designs felt cringe to me. I loved the personalities of the Puffles, and their colors basically distinguished them. If I saw a yellow puffle in someone's igloo, I knew the guy likes the puffles who like art. If they had a blue one, they like the musical one.

I think I joined Club Penguin on the later side; my first account was made in 2011, and then I made a second account a year later in 2012. 2011's Halloween Party was my first one, though it + the anniversary and the Marvel takeover were the only parties I can remember playing on my first account. I will say though, Prehistoric Party 2013 was my favorite party ever. I have such fond memories of that party. I didn't realize how many sponsored things came post-Operation Blackout, man...

The last party I solidly remember taking part in was the hydra medieval party and the cut off point for me where it starts to feel like club penguin was losing it's charm was the marvel take over party. Seeing it now I can agree that it doesn't seem like a soulless cashgrab, but it just seems like too much of a divergence from club penguin's natural charm. I wish I had been around for the dragon king thing that seemed cool.

this is kinda off topic but seeing the wild puffles at 1:41:53 made me remember that originally, before that room with them was released, they were available to adopt exclusively with a club penguin themed mobile app that was basically just candy crush but wild puffle themed. i adopted a bunch of them like that and i remember flaunting my bunny puffle purposefully and a bunch of users would walk up to me and go like “wtf how did you get that” or “are you a hacker” it was so funny

Watching any video history on club penguin makes me realize just how much hours I spend on it, like I remember A LOT of these. My favorite being the fair, I wasn't as present by the last years but I vividly remember the Herbert-Dragon fight.

My first time playing Club Penguin was during the ice sculpture party! I remember the snowflake tshirt and the blue hat and blue necklace ! I miss the old club penguin before they remade the design… club penguin changed and I stopped playing because the vibe I liked wasn’t there anymore. The Disney parties killed it for me… 😢 Miss decorating my igloo, playing Mine Cart or chatting with other penguins and visiting their igloos! What a childhood! ❤

As a 2007-2009 player it is nice to see that the game I was obsessed at the time grew a lot after I had stopped playing. I didn't spoke English at the time and being a member was impossible for me so Club Penguin had a mysterious aura for me always. It had things that I did not completely understand or access. I used guides, dictionaries to do stuff sometimes. I didn't see the famed Operation Blackout or the franchise themed parties as I stopped playing at the time. Nowadays I play on the private servers and experience these events and socialize with people and I must say it is pretty fun! I mostly play on Club Penguin Journey and its parties is very fun, the community there is very friendly. I like socializing with people there, I recommend it to everyone. Hopefully there will be a true successor with a lot of resources to Club Penguin in the future.

It's honestly kinda sad how Herbert's character kinda got degraded over time. He was always a bit goofy, but they also portrayed as a genuine threat who's schemes could actually cause some major damage. His plans during the Halloween party and "Operation Tri-umph" are so pathetic he feels more like Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

There was an even bigger TD game that got taken down and forgotten(should probably have been its own entry in the Abyss) Simply called Best. Game. Ever. it was an RPG that took place during TDA and you were an intern supposed to do tasks to prepare each challenge. Every week a new set of quests was added. Also you could befriend/betray candidates, and you could level up and get better weapons And a lot of other things I won't get into. It was a REALLY good RPG game that could've even stood on its own two legs but got taken down after TDA ended. Why? Just why?
