Watching these Mustangs land JUST REMINDED ME of (Sonoma County Airport, california) now of the Early 70's how I used to get up on the house roof top and watch planes take off at the local airport; They had 3 different Mustangs at that time, And what they would 1st do slow speeds BACK and FORWORTH 4 times, and then he would not come back for about 10mins AND THEN THE REAL SHOW BEGAN I did not have to sit on the roof anymore! is when he came back the 5th time IT SOUNDED LIKE A ROARING!! LOIN!! is that if you did not see him coming IS THAT IT WOULD SCARE ANYONE straight out of their pants!!! REALLY and he would make 4 more HARD RUNS and finally 2 slow passes and finally land, Never thought about it but those guys probably ran the Mustangs at the Reno Air Races. REALLY it was Soooo Dam Fast you would have to spot the Mustang 1st OR FORGET! HE was GONE!!

Magnificent. I remember watching the old World At War series and the German General saying that the first time the escort Mustangs didn't turn around before reaching Germany, he knew the war was lost.

Out walking the moors I heard the sound and knew it was a spitfire there were actually two and they waggled their wings saying hi as I bounced around like an idiot waving my arms.

That Merlin sound is just incredible and iconic. When you look at the list of aircraft that had it as their power plant it’s unbelievable. Mosquitoes, mustangs, spitfires and Lancasters for just a few. It was an excellent example of allied design inspiration and willingness to share that inspiration with their fellow compatriots.

As someone once put it, the Spitfire is the only aircraft in the world that takes off and descends to cruising altitude. 🙂

Top hole. Bally Jerry pranged his kite right in the how's your father. Hairy blighter, dicky-birdied, feathered back on his Sammy, took a waspy, flipped over on his Betty Harper's and caught his can in the Bertie.

Many years ago Yorkshire TV did a similar stunt. The presenter stood in a field, whilst a stunt pilot in a light aircraft was to fly close over his head. The pilot cut it too fine and hit him in the forehead with the wing.😂😂

As an American, I'm supposed to be all about the Mustang, but the Spitfire has my heart for good. There's nothing in the sky more beautiful than a Spitfire that isn't a living creature. It's the pinnacle of beauty in physics, engineering, performance, and aesthetics. If only RJ Mitchell had lived long enough to see how crucial and beloved his creation would become.

The P-47 was a heavy plane, but was very nimble and acrobatic nonetheless and could hold her own as well as a P-51 in battle. If I was a WWII pilot, I would have chosen the P-47 hands down.

I took my son to the Mustangs & Legends: The Final Roundup. It was an air show held at Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio from September 27-30, 2007. The event was billed as the "final roundup" of P-51 pilots and Mustangs. It was the largest number of P-51s since WWII. It was awesome show of WWII aircraft. I love the P-51.
