Hi Loving your video. Very informative. I've got a v quick question I need help with. If a piece of Wedgwood has two little black marks on the reverse, is that evidence it's a seconds piece please? Bez W ick btw from a Potteries girl 🤭

Hi. Not an expert on Wedgwood, but think they are more likely to be the decorator's marks. If they are in one of the colours used in the design, that's a possible answer.

I have serving dishes marked with a type of crest with an S overlaying an M, I believe. It notes England but no numbers so I assume it is not sterling silver.

Hi Paul, i recently went to Ypres on a battlefield tour, without a doubt the best Christmas present i have ever received. I have since done a bit of research and have found out my Great Grandfather was there, he was awarded the three medals for the war, also received the MM for action at Trones wood. I would like to trace his medals if possible, his name was Alfred Lee, he was with the 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. I have his service number (13524) and a few other bits of info. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It's fascinating isn't it? I also had a great uncle who sadly died in France in 1914. Tracing medals is not something I have experience of, but believe there are specialist companies in the uk. My advice would be to start with the British Legion. There help line is open seven days a week: 0808 802 8080. Best of luck with your search.

I wish there was someone that could identify my piece I am quite sure it’s copper I cleaned enough of the oxidation off to reveal flowers in each corner and two inside. I have looked at hundreds of different pieces and have talked to normal people that have no idea what it is or where it comes from, some people have suggested that it came from Sweden or Israel in the early 1900’s. I live in southern Utah it’s hard to find anyone with knowledge.

EP suggests electroplated, so unlikely to be solid silver.

Thank you. I've seen a hardback advertised as a first edition, which says 'first printed' but the hardback number line says 10 9. Then below it has the complete paperback number line, so I guess its the 9th hardback printing in the first year.

Certainly fascinating medals. One thing I find unfortunate for my own situation, is that somewhere along the line my Great Great Grandfather either lost or sold his medals (perhaps even someone in the family later on) and haven't had much luck finding any sales records or traces of them online to possibly re-acquire them as they're now likely in the hands of a collector who isn't interested in parting with them.

Thank you. Very well explained. I was confused by other articles. I have inherited many books, some very old, some faith based, history etc. My Young Washington (peter stark) has the first edition and numbers 12345678910. Im thinking it is first edition first printing. If so, you get credit for great teaching skills. If its not..... i appreciate you taking the time to help educate the world. Kcb

I didn't hear him explain *why* they line up all those numbers. I mean, why not just state the edition and the printing. Why 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10? The reason: is easier to just delete the old printing number than it is to change a number. This was especially true in the age of printing plates where a change to the text meant recreation of the plate. Or retypesetting the page. It was easy back then to just remove the number. Today is easier, of course, but the practice still remains.

I have an edition of Treasure Island from the 40s. Or at least I think it is the 40s since it has no date! Now, the book has no value, but it's not the first book from times past that didn't bother to indicate a date.

I have my great-grandfather's victory medal, but not his war medal. I wonder if anyone knows of the best place in the UK to start looking for the war medal. Is there a website where they are commonly sold on? I would love to track it down. Thank you!

Hello Anthony. It's tricky because there were so many medals struck and many were split from their 'brother' medal because of the silver value. I'd start with the obvious (ebay & a uk auction house search via thesaleroom.com) including his name and regiment in the search, and maybe also contact an online group or society for your GG Grandfather's regiment. Failing that, I believe you may be able to apply to have a replacement struck, but don't know the costs involved. Best of luck - it could be out there. Paul

Hi I'm from the Philippines, recently I bough an Indian Monk Brass statue, they claimed its antique now I'm not sure anymore, I bought it in republic of Asia that's the name of their antique store, they debuted in Cash and Carry mall in Palanan,Makati, I'm not sure if a copper or brass I was trying to look closely when you said something bubble like in brass
