So nice to see another video from you. I have been trying to learn more about British (and Continental to a lesser extent) silver marks, so I appreciate this video! I was blessed to find a great 1840 serving spoon and best of all, early provincial Scottish silver tongs. Wow! Hester Bateman. It's wonderful that you found such a lovely example from this maker. I don't find British silver in the US that often but some estate sale companies don't know how to read the marks, so I've been fortunate to pick up British sterling silver cheaply from time to time. I would love to see more videos from you especially on your finds--- if you are still buying.

Thank you! Yes, it's been a while but more finds and info videos coming soon. Congratulations on the sterling silver pick-ups.

My Candelabras say Bell Mark on them and literally have a small bell stamped into them. Does that ring any bells for you? (punny😂) but they also say made with original sheffield dies. Can you tell me what that bell means?

I found an English tea candy and the only mark was the Word England and what looks like a manora or a candlestick holder. Any ideas about this? Thank you!

Hey, thanks for the video, sadly it didn't help us over here, there is this plate with texturing on it and on the back it has what looks like a tapering doorway, kinda like a arrowhead, and it has a key above it, its pretty worn down cause even graphite didn't show us what it was, but right above this doorway it says silver plated i think but i can't find the mark anywhere.

Could you help me identifying Exeter Creamer probably from 1580-1585
@pauldaviesantiques15564 жыл бұрын
Hi. Exeter began assaying silver in 1701. The following site is our recommendation for dating and identifying all British & Irish silver, searchable by assay office and date. Best of luck! www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/index.htm

H/M ...Anchor. ...LION standing up right... F.... This is on the apparent solid silver hairbrush set I’ve just bid on🤔 I think I worked out Birmingham...England? The seller has given the The age 1905?? But when I try to understand the hallmarks, Age is stating a little earlier🤷🏻♀️. There are no more markings only what I’ve shared with you... And help is extremely welcome🌸. Subscribed and thumbs up..... ..... Now my amateur research is telling me the F means foreign!! So maybe I’m wrong about Birmingham🤷🏻♀️ Oh blimy blimey! The seller is asking £275.... And States there solid Silver🙄🙄.. The H and M are in the own boxes in hallmarks. There’s an anchor up right.......A lion standing on its feet...... F

The lion indicates sterling silver and the anchor mark is for Birmingham. Try this handy website I often use to confirm the year - good luck. www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/index.htm

Hi. I have a ring that says just "silver" on the inside. It is vintage/very old but I can't find anything about this marking and in which period was used. Can you please give me some advice? Thank you very much
@pauldaviesantiques15564 жыл бұрын
The balance of probability (if it's not magnetic or obviously plated) is it is silver. Some genuine silver vintage items are not marked at all; only way to be absolutely sure would be to acid test on an inconspicuous area.

@@pauldaviesantiques1556 I already took it to a jewelr (my friend) she says it's silver. However, she doesn't know about the mark and a possible dating because I bought it from abroad and we're in Italy, she's Italian and doesn't know about foreign markings and historical ones. The ring has marcasite crystal so from the style I probably was gonna say first half of the 1900, but I was hoping you knew something about that mark... Maybe some laws that can tell us when purity markings (absent here) came in use or something like that?

@@SweetyPrincessMarghe If it read 'sterling silver' I'd say very likely American, but I've seen 'silver' on items from around the world. I'm not an expert on jewellery, but someone who is might recognise the style or setting. Best of luck.

Hi. Not familiar with the mark, but the following link is a Sheffield silver plate maker who used a bell as a symbol on some pieces. Good luck with your search. www.silvercollection.it/oldsheffieldhallmarks.html
