Okay so I’ve always liked anthropomorphic animals in shows and movies and In like 6th grade I got really into the web series zoophobia by vivziepop and I remember very clearly I was at my friends house and we were hanging out in the basement just watching TV and chilling or something and I was on my phone or iPad or whatever I had and I was watching Either a zoophobia animation or watching a comic dub but I look at this one character spam the fox something about his design and his tail made me go “ew spam looks like a furry” and back then I didn’t really know what a furry was but all I knew was they’re not good And they’re like Bad people or something but after that night all I could think of is “wait.. what actually is a furry like who are they” and then I started looking up photos on google and eventually I got around to a soren sladkevick’s ‘fursuiting at my family reunion’ then I found a video of someone fursuiting at there collage I don’t remember who it was but then after that I found pocari roo ,oden wolf, stormi, Beagle in red, and ash coyote. Gen X furry here (SimbaSeven), so I get where you're at. Computer nerd here since the 80's. I was bullied.. A LOT.. but if something happened, guess who they would hunt down to fix it. I probably was a furry since the 80's, but didn't know it was a thing back then (Thundercats, Tailspin, TTA, Animaniacs, etc). I finally dove in a few years ago and don't regret it one bit. ..and I've had this handle (Simba7) since the dialup days of the Internet (yay, 1997) and Microsoft Chat (and IRC chat) had a 8 character limit.. so... yeah..

I'm not a furry but I enjoy anthropomorphic characters and play competitive splatoon, so give it a year or 2.

There's actually quite a few who were haters before they were Furries. Me? I joined too early to hate. But I still got all the grief for being into anything artsy and for not being a jock - because if you weren't a hypermasculine sports jock whose only interest in the world was being a football (translation: soccer) player, then you just may as well be a target for harassment from everyone else. And any excuse for bullying was considered acceptable. Oh yeah, and art was still not considered something you could make a living from. This was the UK, if you didn't have support from your parents to do anything, you did not do it. So obviously I was there struggling to get my art going to a point where I was going to be happy enough to try make even a slight living from it. Thanks to pressure from everyone who wasn't me, I still am not at that point. We'll see how things go moving forward... -_-

One of the best things about getting older (if you're doing it right) is that you find your people, start to feel comfortable in your own skin, and ultimately learn to stop worrying and love the cringe. Feeling like you can never be truly honest about what you enjoy and who you are because your entire social circle will eat you alive is a terrible way to live. I never hated furries, but did feel like I had to at least half-heartedly join in on the dunking when the subject came up if I didn't want to end up on the chopping block myself, and I always had to be cautious about appearing too nonchalant or, especially, complimentary towards anything associated with furries or other "cringe" hobbies or interests. This video highlights how a lot of furry-bashers are themselves a) already cringe and adorably/tragically lacking in self-awareness and/or b) already being bullied for something, and are desperate to not be demoted to an even lower position on the totem pole.

I told myself i wasnt a furry for the longest time due to the negative steryotypes around it even as i only drew anthro animals and animals growing up but rventually got curious and joined the local furry community and like love it alot.

I never knew what a furry even was yet subconsciously I'd become one since the early 90's. I became a full fledged Furry since 2010, and it's thanks to Majira I was inspired to obtain a fursuit of my own!

I was an anti-fur back when I was a Sophomore in High School. For me, it was the misinformation that got me to be that way. I stopped being one after I attended college, while learning about them. I learned that furries were not as bad as I thought. What kept away from being anti-fur was learning how insecure, hypocritical, hateful and counterproductive they are. Especially with the whole cringey jokes about, "being fatherless", "hunting season", "gassing furries", etc. They just do this to troll and pick fights. Every fandom has skeletons in their closet, toxic fans and an adult side to it. Read how the Star Wars fandom harshly treated Jake Lloyd for playing Anakin and Amhed Best for voicing JarJar Binks or the Undertale fandom about how a fan harmed an artist over fanart. Furries are no different from this. If you proudly call yourself an anti-fur or harbor those views, then it shows that you don't understand that concept. I'm glad I stopped being an anti-fur years ago. Looking back at having that mindset as a teen, it was really stupid.

I was totally different when I was younger. I thought that I would only see furries in the worlds of sports team mascots and theme park entertainment. Who knew there'd be a fan base for wearing fully furry costumes? My favorite part of being a furry is the expressions "OwO" and "UwU". I just love the way it sounds; especially if you're feeling flirty; giggle! 🤭

Growing up I've always loved media using anthro characters (robin hood, star fox, sonic) and around the beginning of high school I said screw it and immersed myself in the furry community. I started drawing my own characters, watching the youtube channels, and interacted with the community (furry amino anyone??). After about a year I just kinda got bored of it and moved on to other interests, but to this day I still have an odd affinity for anthropomorphic characters. I'm in college now and I've recently started drawing furries again and I've let my youtube reccomendations fall back into furry hell from the drawing tutorials (I've improved a lot!). Even though I met a few very nice furries back in the day, I still don't think I'll ever refer to myself as a furry or fully associate myself with the community again just because of how notorious and cringe it can be. Sorry but you all are just not my type of people lol

I did have a anti-furry phase in the 2000's and early 2010's because it was popular thing to do. Today im not a furry but a ally and furry adjacent for sure.

same here!! i used to bully and make fun of people on deviantart when i was like 15, not proud of it but ive come a long way. its funny because i would draw wolves and loved making wolf and animal characters and warrior cats, but i would insist "im not a furry i just like some of the art!!" ... now 12 years later i have a fursuit, practically all my friends are furries and/or therians, and even consider myself a therian too and wear a collar all the time, 100% one of the people i would have called totally cringe and a weirdo back then. and im happy for it <3 love my weird life and love being a dog :o3

I am not a furry. I am just looking around this community for the past 2 or 3 months. I was just watching some train videos on KZbin in incognito mode (to not alter my recommendations) and got recommended a few seconds long video from Bolt Railway Dog playing with plushie locomotives in his fursuit. It looked funny, so I clicked on it and went "OK, this is cute though" and watched more similar videos. Naturally I just dived deeper and deeper into the community (as an observer). So yeah, I am not a furry, but it's interesting, and most furries seem to be nice people.

As soon as you mentioned wanting to start an anime club a decade ago I had a bad feeling XD Anime was so taboo back then. I used to sort of be a hater. Basically I didn’t actually have contempt towards furries, but I said things like I did because that’s all I knew. I literally knew nothing about furries other than I was supposed to dislike them. Then one day I stumbled across a video by a furry talking about her experience with hate, and I loved the video and her fursuit. A few days and private tabs later, I came across some Majira videos, then some Pocari videos, and so on. Actually found some of your older videos in that period as well lol. Around five-six months after that, I decided to make a fursona, and soon after I joined a brand new discord server that a (at the time) small channel created. Made friends there, come to conclusions about myself, and with support from a friend discovered I was gay. Where does that take me now? A closeted gay furry femboy in a family that hates everything I just listed above. Life is a banquet lol

This is one of the single moments in my life I can say "That's literally me" because I ALSO had a big hate for furries,but then I started realizing... Great part of my OCs were anthro foxes and when I drew myself,many times I would put fox ears and fox tails on me. I then would discover...I was a furry.
