If u go to the Giant UK website they have a calculator for road tubeless psi pressure .using your weight , rim and tyre width . A quick look at the numbers you may well find you are looking some where round 50 to 60 psi . 🙂 I'm going tubeless on mtb this week to see what all the fuss is about, been holding back for a year 😅

On my old touring bike, I fitted Schwalbe Marathon Plus, with inner tubes, and with sealant. I have never had a puncture with that in 12 years! Now I have a gravel bike, fitted with Schwalbe Durano plus 28mm tyres with inner tubes (no sealant). These are very tough tyres, and make it more like a road bike. I've not had a puncture with that in 9 months since fitting, and I've done some pretty rough cycling.

You have already been given some good recomendations re sealants. Was hoping you found a solution via mucoff since I have an unopnended large bottle that has been sitting for near a year. Got tired of smelling and feeling mucoff, while the tire never properly sealed. I have used Silca but though effective it comes with the costs of valves clogging (high flow valves will sove that) plus its more expensive to use than Orange Seal. I am currently using orange seal (regular), especiallui because I am using inserts hence want to reduce the possibility of my having to unseat the tire in order to apply sealant

Miss Lou, Good video but I still ride with tubes and tube liners. Works for me. The tubes have the sealent in them. Works for the crappy South Texas roads. I have never rode tubeless so I can not provide any comments on it.

I don’t ride professionally or for competition. From what I’m seeing of others experiences, there’s not an advantage to run tubeless on a bicycle. I recall using “Fixaflat” as a kid on my bicycle. Had a basically rotten sidewall. As I inflated the old tire the sidewall gave way and I got a bath with the stuff face first. “Slime” has little ground rubber particles in it similar to your glitter idea. But I haven’t used it, so I don’t know how well it works, or if it would be suitable for tubeless bicycle tires. I have some bicycle tubes that came with “Slime” in them as spares, but I’ve yet to use them. I also don’t know how many different sizes are available that come with “Slime” already in them, but “Slime” is available in a bottle. I haven’t had a puncture flat in years. But I do have one bike tire that loses air in about 2 days. I’ve soapy water checked it and haven’t found a leak 🤷‍♂️ When I get annoyed enough, or stop being lazy it may be my first experiment with a “Slime” tune replacement. Happy motoring 👍😎

Problem solved, glad to see it's all fixed. As for glitter it's what was used when making home brew sealant. It was a thing when it first came out many years ago and as the sealant was expensive and it did work, though predominantly mountain bikes.

I'm 80kg and running hookless wheels, Orange sealant, and 60psi. Never had a problem sealing except when I got a 1cm slash. My valves tend to clog and I have to clear them every couple weeks. I want to try the Silca stuff at some point, but I'm concerned my valves will clog even more frequently. Anyway, I think that even 70psi may be a bit high and it is is worth trying Orange or Silca sealant.
@cornelhughes
@cornelhughes 5 күн бұрын
Yep Silca will defintely clog your valves. Strange you are experiencing this with orange seal. Is this the regular version or endurance? I am using the regular. Anyway there are special valves you can get called high flow valves that most likely won't clog. I currently use the solution from 76projects. There is also Fillmore Valves

I ride my Giant Defy with Fondo Gavia 0 tubeless tires at 64 psi (max is 75). The handful of small punctures that I’ve had in 5 years of riding this bike have all self sealed or in one case got me home without a big mess. Tubeless works for me. I carry an inner tube just in case. 🚴‍♂️😄

I've been running hookless rims with tubeless tires for over 3 years. I ride on crap country roads, real gravel, not this nicely pressed down stuff, and lots of off road (dirt, gravel, etc.). I ride at about 40-55 psi. I've never had a puncture or problem. If you're riding high pressures (over 70 psi) then you're exceeding what wheel and tire mfgrs state. Of course you'll probably have issues. Maybe apply some brainpower and avoid self inflected wounds.

I gave up on road bike tubeless over a year ago. Adding glitter to sealant just means you and the bike get covered in sparkly sealant. Which is even harder to clean off. I went to tpu tubes in 28mm GP5000 tyres and haven't looked back.

To much pressure it is, I don't know how wide your tire is but try to ride around 50 psi. And it will seal. But with these pressures you ride it has no chance to dry.

I’ve found the road tubeless is very close to useless. It only makes changing a tube messy. I gave up on it a long time ago. I’ve been riding a long time and changing a tube is not a big deal. To be fair, I haven’t tried Silca sealant which is supposed to be the most effective. They add crushed reclaimed carbon fiber to the sealant. I use TPU tubes which equals the weight and performance of going tubeless. Tubeless is good for mountain bikes where the pressure is around 25 psi.

Like alot of people have said silca sealant is king! Don't mess with glitter. Also even if you're running hooked wheels, most say 72-74 psi at most! It feels a little odd at first if used to higher pressure but you'll get used to it quickly! If you were used to 80 psi, you probably need to go lower than 70! The silca sealant will seal up to 6mm punctures! Since I switched to tubless in August I have only noticed after I'm home that I have a little sealant on my frame or fork! That's 10 months with no stopping! Silca also has a pressure calculator that's pretty amazing! I usually run a couple psi higher than they recommend but that's up to preference.
@pscoop
@pscoop 6 күн бұрын
FWIW Muc-off sealant has worked well for me on my road bike, although I use Silca on my gravel bike. 80psi seems high - I use the silica tire pressure calculator to figure out a starting pressure and adjust from there; for my 28mm road tires it recommends 75psi (and I'm considerably heavier than you!) but sometimes I've gotten away with 70psi.

I use Stans on my mountain bike, but Orange Seal on my gravel bike. For some reason, the shop told me that my wheel and tire combo works best with Orange Seal. Knock on wood, haven't had issues. I might suggest that if you continue to have issues with spraying sealant, maybe use some mini mudguards, LOL, something like Ass Savers Mudder Mini and Win Wing. I think they come in pink 😉.

Muc off doesn't work because it's water based, glitter will help my friend use black pepper to season his tires but I'd get something like silca with specs of carbon in it. Also the lighter you are the lower pressure you should run mainly for comfort but allows it will help with sealing. I'm 70kg ISH and I run 60psi on 28mm tires

Great video as always I still use tubes, I know if I get a puncture I can put a new tube in and carry on.
