Which is also how people accidentally blow themselves up doing this, by tilting the bottle too much and letting out all of the ammonia, allowing for air to enter and come in contact with the lithium floating in a combustible solvent.

Should you have bothered yourself to actually find out the MSDS of this starting fluid, as well as others manufactured in the USA in the last few years, you would have noticed that they intentionally made "new formulation" by adding low boiling point petroleum distillate hydrocarbons to the mixture, so that separation of diethyl ether from other "gunk" by fractional distillation becomes almost impossible. Yes, you would still get the fraction that distills over around boiling point of the DE ether, and it would still have remarkable extraction properties, but there still was a reason why they stipulated the change in the formulation for all the US manufacturers, right?! ;) (Don't forget to check out the toxicity of those low boiling point petroleum "things"!)
