To prevent the roof from blowing out the walls, you should have added some Simpson strong tie H2A connectors after chopping each joist. These straps prevent the joists from spreading. With your access above, you could have put a strap on the joists after cutting 1/3 through them so you would know that they hadn't moved.

I have a project just like this. Sink drain on outside wall with concrete slab with hole near wall in cast iron. I like the drain coming up inside the foundation wall. But I did see a drop of sweat fall on the floor. I will have to write a check.

I have been looking absolutely everywhere for precisely that tile! It was made in 2002 and I did my floors with it in 2004. I purchased extra boxes knowing that eventually some would have to be replaced but the boxes disappeared. My assumption is that the installers must have taken them with them 😡 I have looked absolutely everywhere for that. It is Congoleum Laminate, NOT linoleum. I don't suppose that you happen to have any boxes left over????

I would've ran white from trans to box(-), red from trans to switch(+) and red from switch to box. No effect to how it works, just clears my head. This is really good "how to" video for a noob

You could use hydraulic jacks to raise that beam. 😮 10:11

Just be careful when doing something like this. Ended up great but there was a lot of safety concerns while moving that beam brother. That beam slips on either end your a goner.

Do I have to cut the top place on the end wall or can I run rest it on the top plate?

I don't have good feeling about cutting these metal pieces. How to know if it is OK to cut them?
@NetworkprofessorАй бұрын
You got to make sure. I heard tension cables pop like springs. Must video don't cut but try to work around them.

Ten years ago I should never install peel-and-stick vinyl in the first place; now it's tough to remove and costs more to install tile.

I’m trying to do the same thing at my house. How difficult was the project and how long do you think something like this would take someone to do by themselves.
@robertallenmcdowell2 ай бұрын
We did this for leveling sagging rafters from water damaged roofing. A bottle floor jack and a t-brace was great for raising the beam exactly where is needed to go and then be secured with the posts and hangers.

Thanks for this. I watch a video a few weeks ago by a tile guy (Starr Tile, I think), who built a niche. He basically said "Just cut the studs and frame a box", and proceeded to do just that. I told him in comments that thats all fine if the wall isnt load-bearing (with a double top plate). I then described building a header (exactly as shown) if the wall is load-bearing. His response? "Yeah. Everybody knows that". Well not DIYers who are learning stuff on KZbin videos. Needless to say I blocked that clown, wont watch any more of his content.

How would you frame if you have a window right above it
@nandisaand52873 ай бұрын
If you already have a window there should already be a header to carry the load. As long as you just cut into the cripples below the window (and NOT the jack studs supporting the existing header), you can just frame a box without worrying about a header.

My kitchen floor linoleum is starting to break off in chunks. I thought it was gonna be a very slow messy process in taking it all up. Your suggestion of using an iron, and cloth was so helpful to me. I now feel very confident that I can take it up and put down a new slip proof layer. Thanks for sharing. Peace Out.

I am not an engineer but that is regular wood being used as a beam. I am almost sure that should have been an LVL beam to be able to support the shear load especially in the center of the beam

thank you for posting this very helpful video! i was always afraid of modifying load-bearing walls and know the cost to hire someone would be expensive. My scenario, my parents bathroom has a adjoining wall with the townhouse next to us. it was built in the 1970s in NYC. it isnt down to the studs but do you have any experience is your steps are exactly whats required?
