Brilliant content, a fantastic illustration of the huge white elephant this railway is. All that Plant standing, the money being wasted must be eye watering. Guy on his phone I suspect is a Slinger, will hook up the rebar to the crane when they want to lift it. Probably a Driver sitting in the crane all day as well, on the off chance they may need to lift something....

The only people who are making money from HS2 are the builders, architects and lawyers. It passes through Northamptonshire without stopping, so how does it benefit our county? correct it doesn't

I think the words are “YOU COULD’NT MAKE IT UP”. I can’t remember how much they said HS2 was going to cost, but I reckon it’s many times over that now. Be interesting where those costs could be found. Shame you didn’t go to Turweston aerodrome, they’ve got a fantastic cafe by the runway and do great food. Great video with you all. Thanks for sharing

I have worked on road jobs as a dumper operator, and one of the biggest problems these days and what racks the cost of the projects sky high , is Health and Safety, every job has to have a load of Permits, and assessments signed off before a wheel can turn or a digger puts bucket in the ground. Sometimes you might not start actual work until midday or later, because the bloke who has to sign off on something has gone off site. My mate was in London on a large station refit, and he said some days, they never got to start, as it was too late, by the time all permits were signed, and that is the real reason projects in the UK cost so much, even after all the going and froing and delays before work starts.

Cheers Purple, a political vanity project which should never have got off the ground. Would have been a lot cheaper to buy up land next to the WCML and tag on an extra up and down line. It’s a hell of a lot of money just to cut half an hour off London to Birmingham. All the best for now 🤙

Absolutely. Thanks for commenting bud

Take it from someone who worked on the WCML for nearly 40 years, adding two more tracks would have far more impacts than HS2 and almost certainly wouldn't cost any less. There are far more houses, businesses and environmentally sensitive areas along the WCML. Take Roade Cutting as just one example, houses both sides at the southern end and it's a SSSI in its own right. There was enough fuss over the new road over the cutting, and it wasn't cheap.

My mum's parents moved from Islington, London, to 19 Valley Road, Wellingborough, in the early '60s. My grandfather moved with his company to Wellingborough instead of searching for a new job in Islington when his company relocated. Mum used to take my sister and me with her to see her parents once a week. I still have a few family members on my mum's side living there. I visited Valley Road about two years ago for the memories. Valley Road and adjacent areas have mostly stayed the same. It was like going back in time.

Had some fun times messing around the quarry and the railway tunnels when I was a kid Loads of stuff to see in Rugby. Didn't know about HS2 spoil being dumped will drag the family down there. Cement works is called Cape Canaveral. We don't see it as being huge as it's just something that's always there. Keep it up 😀

Does that also include all of OUR money they have wasted on this white elephant just to move the high and might between London and Birmingham 35 mins quicker.
@paulhill166513 күн бұрын
Its a white Elephant because it has been cut back and cut back to the point of almost being pointless. Much of the reason for the huge cost is to reduce the environmental impact. For example, at one point the new line passes close to an area of old woodland. 12 species of bats have been identified as living in this wood, including some of the rarest in the UK. To protect the bats the line is going to run through a shelter for just on 1km, next to the wood, the shelter will consist of concrete hoops with the gaps filled in with a metal mesh, too small for the bats to fly through. It was designed, then the Government, changed the design, and added a further two railway lines, for local traffic, the design had to be done again, the current total cost, to protect some bats? £100 million

Also POTTERIC CARR nature reserve in Doncaster used to be railway siding and i believe that there is still some evidence of it, there is an old railway walk for the old Rossington Colliery. Also there is still evidence of old railway siding in ST JAMES CHURCH CAR PARK which is not far from Doncaster Station.
