LOL! I'm old enough to have seen this type of obsessive, compulsive behavior with coffee, cigars, wine, water, and even air. In fact, I still remember people paying a small fortune to drink coffee made from coffee beans excreated by a small mammal. I just remembered paying extra to have a drink with million year old glacier ice . Meh, people are b funny.

If you use the press, then it doesn't continue to brew and go muddy as it separates the grounds from the water

This is the dumbest video about how to use a French breast that I have ever seen. He’s not even sticking one spoon in there. He’s sticking two spoons in there before he even presses the freaking plunger.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

the "crust" is just floating coffee.... since most of it floats, not soaking, removing it means you put in too much coffee to start. waste of time.

Isn’t the point of the press to push the grounds to the bottom? Makes no sense to use a french press just use a heatproof glass and do the same. Much cheaper then buying the press just for show!😂

Too much work!! just buy a high-quality French press with double fine mesh filters. I use a high-quality French press and have rarely seen any sediment in my coffee.

How do we get the microplastics in our coffee like when we use keurigs when we french press it? Can we chop up a little piece of plastic and melt it into the water? Please help.

I've been using the press for years. I don't use this method. I find that it's fine when you plunge it as long as you don't press firmly to the bottom. Also, under-roasted coffee like the blonde roasts and such are absolutely horrible in French press methods. Actually, they're absolutely awful in any brewing method because they're just absolutely awful in general... just worse (ifthey can be worse) when using a French press. Ok... off the soapbox... FP is stil the best brewing method. I just brew the coffee and drink. A bit of sludge in the bottom is character in my book.

if your tap water tastes good, use it; otherwise buy bottled water. Use 15% coffee to water ... 75 grams medium grind coffee to 500ml water ( buy a scale !! ) pour 200F water over the grounds ... wait 5 minutes, slowly press plunger. pour into a thermos ... pour a cup from the thermos.
@MilliThornton3 ай бұрын
This was really fun to watch! And I love your intro music. I just bought a mini French press (I live alone) and the first cup I made with it was bitter and disappointing. Can't wait to try your method tomorrow. But I don't have scales so I'll have to wing it for that part. A scoop came with the French press so I assumed that was the right amount of coffee for this size of pot.

There's a high probability that those who disagree with the way coffee is made in this video is way higher than those who don't use the French press as intended. And those who enjoy their coffee the way the French press is supposed to be used is almost everyone.

The description for this video is b.s. He didn't get this method from a host of U.K. professionals. This is a James Hoffmann technique and it's well known so even if there were several U.K. professionals using it they no doubt mentioned James Hoffman, but the biggest dead give away this content thief got this method from James Hoffmann is the "make some breakfast" reference while waiting. No sub from me. That's for sure. Damn. Biting another creator's content.

if you're not going to use the "press" part of the french press then just use a cup and a strainer! Why tf would you spend so much on fancy french presses if you're just going to use it as a regular cup with a handle????
@jethro706 ай бұрын
If you don't like the body that a French press provides, you may as well choose a different brewing method. All of these extra complications are completely unnecessary, and only serve to remove the character that the press imparts. I'm good with the ratio and coarse grind in this video, but after that... just set a timer for 4 min., poor hot water over grounds to fill 2/3 of the press, and let sit for 1 min. while the grounds bloom and release gas. Then stir, add water to the top, put the top on (don't plunge), and let sit for the remaining 3 min. Then plunge slowly. Done. Enjoy all that richness and extra body of the French press. If you don't like that, put the press away, and try pour over.

I've been doing it wrong for years. Too little coffee and way too much water, everything tasted the same. Now I can actually taste the individual notes, lesson learnt!

You've weighted the grounds. You can measure the volume of water. Why not put the water in a pre-warmed container and slowly sprinkle the grounds on top? Then put the filter on the top of the mixture and wait a few minutes and pour into a mug or server. You wouldn't need to stir at all as sprinkling the grounds into the water satisfies that need while ensuring that all the coffee grounds are thoroughly wet. And how do you get agitation of the grounds in the bottom of the carafe while SLOWLY pressing a filter down through the water? All of the agitation is confined to the immediate area around the surface of the filter medium. It can't "stir" the mixture at all.

@franks49737 ай бұрын
Funny, I have tried both methods. There is no difference with a good grinder and right amount. The argument to not push down the strainer is invalidated when you invert the pot and all the grounds are disturbed. Now you have just re-agitated all those particles. I pour in the water and give it a stir, let it sit for 4 minutes then slowly plunge and let sit for another minute then pour being careful slowly tip the pot.

remember to slowly rub the coffee grounds to make them calm and release better taste...only do this at full moon and never when it rains outside...the grounds need to be hand grinded by a blind sea captain who only speaks latin

Bought a new plunger. Normally use a coffee pod machine. The thing is with leaving the coffee to steep and absorb onto the wayer for four long minutes, isn't the coffee only lukewarm? I like really hot coffee. I'll give his way a try however.
