Hello, as far as i know a cr2032 is a non rechargeable battery. Would it be safer to put a diode in series to block the chargingvoltage?
@va3be_radio
@va3be_radio 17 күн бұрын
Hello First of all, sorry for making you confused. I didn't use CR2032, but used LIR2032 rechargeable battery. I don't expect IC-7300 clock battery circuit will charge the replaced LIR2032, because the original IC-7300 clock circuit charging voltage and current is way too low (3.1V, 0.03mA max) for LIR2032 to be charged. It's been 2 years since I replaced my IC-7300 clock battery, so I'm planning to make a follow-up video soon. If I have time, I will include an experimental video whether the non-rechargable CR2032 can handle 3.1V 0.03mA charging current or not, just for fun. I would definitely use a diode if I chose to use CR2032. Thanks for watching my video 73

Hello Thanks for watching my video and leaving comments. I believe there might be many OMs having the same question as you do, because I had the same question/concern. When I started this mod, I first checked schematics and data sheets for all related parts. As far as I remember, all parts are SAFE up to 4.5V, maybe more, if I'm not wrong. 3.9V is in good safe zone. Charging? I DON'T expect LIR2032 to be charged by the IC-7300's charging circuit, but used LIR2032. Why? Because I checked CR2032 (Not LIR2032) data sheets first, and it seemed ok use, as one of the data sheet noted that it's ok with little charging DC current (I don't remember the exact value), but since so many companies making CR2032, I chose not to use CR2032, but to use LIR2032 which is ok with IC-7300 charging current no matter what brand it is. With the capacity of LIR2032, it will be ok for many many years without charging, probably I don't have to worry about it till I move to the next radio. It's been only about 1.5 years since I did this mod, so it's too early to say everything is good, but so far ZERO issues with me. AS I MENTIONED AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO, IT IS JUST FOR YOUR REFERENCE ONLY. PLEASE CHOOSE WHICHEVER WAY YOU THINK IS RIGHT. Thanks again and 73

@va3be_radio
@va3be_radio 7 ай бұрын
Hello Dennis Thanks for watching my video and leaving nice comments here. I'm using MFJ-1708B which I believe is the previous version of 1708 SDR, but basically the same. I've used G4HUP 70MHz IF tapping board on my old IC-746 long before and used RTL-SDR DONGLE successfully. I don't know the details about FT-100 IF tapping, but you might want to use fine soldering iron tip with magnifying glasses. Nowadays there are many SDR dongles capable of directing sampling, so I started to use MFJ-1708B. One little benefit of using this SDR switch is that sometimes you just turn on your computer start monitoring QSO without the radio, which I do frequently. Whichever way you go, it will make FT-100 much nicer. I hope you get great success with your FT-100 Thanks and 73

I built it to bring it to summer cabin where I can use AC , not to bring it to parks or beaches. I never thought about running it with battery, but if I have to, I may have to get a battery for radios and DC/DC upconverter for mini PC. Another simple way could be using portable power station which supplies both DC and AC. I will continue to share any future progress about my NO GO 😄 BOX on my channel. Thanks again and 73

Hello Cathy Thanks for watching my video. As I use my FT-100 mainly for 2M SSB, I don't use the HF autotuner interface cable anymore, but use CAT control cable only. I built a Transportable ham shack in a rack case, which you can watch on my other videos, and it's tough to put everything in that compact case. Especially managing all the cables in a confined case was a huge challenge. BUT I might be able to dig out the old FT-100 interface cable from one of my ham stuff box and try to remember how I homebrewed that cable. As I'm a casual KZbinr, please give me a couple weeks or more, and I will try to make a video about what you are interested. I will do my best, but I will only be able to work on it on weekends, so please be patient. Thanks

@@va3be_radio Thank you. I think I can manage most of what I see. At 1:51 you say the LDG cable Y-ACC DOESN'T work with the FT100, so then, is it being used by you? this has me confused. ( Note: LDG made a tuner specifically for the FT100/857 that has a cable that sets the mode, drops the power, does the tune, then resets it all. I guess that's actually the tuner doing the work. ) After I build the cables and install it all I may ask questions about the SDR interfacing. One thing at a time though.
@va3be_radio
@va3be_radio 8 ай бұрын
@@cathyjohnson7199I tried Y-ACC (Homebrewed) cable first and it didn't work. I believe it's the Firmware on FT-100 that doesn't respond with Y-ACC. After the first try with Y-ACC cable, I came up with current interface as an alternative which is not perfect. Hello Thanks for watching my video I'm not an expert, but here's my opinion. The charging current on the original clock battery BT-381 is only about 0.025 mA plus minus. Meaning that using none-rechargeable battery CR2032 should not be a problem. I could not find the data sheet that I read before, but it said applying little current won't cause any issue on CR2032. I don't remember the exact number that CR2032 can handle, but 0.025 mA is way below the number as far as I remember. BUT, I would use a diode to block charging current, if I had to use none rechargeable battery, just in case. Again, I'm not an expert, so please take my thoughts as a reference. Thanks and 73 PS. BT-381 is only 1mAh and CR2032 is 210mAh, so it will last so many years that you can forget bout it.

Hi there Thanks for watching my video. I'm using Sennheiser XS1 dynamic mic and homebrewed/modified mic preamp. I have a video uploaded on my channel about the preamp. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5_Up2SddrOia6s It's not a preamp built from scratch, but used a board out from a preamp bought from Amazon. It has a switch to turn phantom power on for condenser mic, which I don't use. Thanks

Hey John It's really nice to see your message on KZbin and thanks for watching my video. Weight became meaningless for me since my version 1 was already over target weight and added more stuff on top of that. BUT I had to check, because it was YOU asking me Hi Hi Mine weighs 63 lb without cover, 67.6 lb with both front and rear cover. It's TOO heavy to call GO BOX, so I named video title like you see 'HAM RADIO GO BOX? NO IT'S NOT' There are thousands of ways to enjoy this fantastic hobby, right? Have a great long weekend 73
