Over the next few years, I will be adding many Mandolin building videos. I’ll admit, my videos, really kind of suck, but high quality videography is not my main motive here, I just want to share certain tasks that some people might be interested in. This particular mandolin is super cool because it is an F5, But I’m building a little bit differently than the other ones that I’ve made. It is a violin style and tenon neck join, but it has a steel threaded receiver and a pen head/Allen head bolt, in addition to hide glue, which is holding the heel portion of the neck. The sides of the neck are not glued. This will allow the repair person an easier time resetting the neck if it is ever needed. my pet peeve is musical instruments that have necks, which need resets that are difficult to do. Not so much the difficulty aspect, but the cost involved. It’s so nice if a customer has some thing that they know is inexpensive to maintain. If it ever needs to be modified or repaired, the back will be able to be removed in a relatively easy fashion, not requiring refinishing. That’s why I used high glue for both the heel portion of the neck and the back. Everything else is tight bond.
