After the late 70's discontinuation of import tarrifs, the degree of car market competition increased dramatically. Consequently, twenty years later, this Buick's subtle synergistic improvements go unnoticed by most shoppers open to purcahsing domestic vehicles.

Thanks for what is definitely among the most informative 1997 Buick Regal videos. I learned a few things. It goes to show the updated Century platform in comparison to the older Century platform is light years ahead in Body Control Module technology. Although I like the older prior gernation body, the planning and development it's based upon dates back to the late 70s computer aided designs. It stimply doesn't have the BCM technolgy or strutural ridigity of the more robotically manufactured 1997 Regal. While certain aspects of 80s robotics were still in their infancy following GM's Fisher Body Division departure, by 1997 forward leaps in technology likely make for a unique Buick Regal ownership experiience.

I just bought a 1997 LeSabre Limited with 125k miles. Adriatic blue with blue velour interior. AZ car so no rust. Of course it has a few issues I need to work on, but not much.

The only noise in my 1997 LeSabre comes from the driver's door panel. When I press the panel, the noise stops. I suspect a door panel clip is broken or missing. This is a fantastic video. I wish similar videos were available for all cars.

Engineers put mics on a dummy in the seats, and added insulation or laminates. I do think the laminate door windows make a difference in my Lucerne.

It makes me wonder how Many of those dealers on the Royal Purple Council still exist or if they all got gobbled up by the national dealership conglomerates that are so prevalent today.

If ever a competitor that 4.6L was it, but the Camry was probably the chief competitor in alota ways. The 00/01 camrys were very good in 6cyl. Great years for cars. They made them too good. Now people keep going back to those cars for reliability. The 3800 series wins against both cars. The engine over fords slightly and the body over camry and ford slightly. But Toyotas engine is tied with LaSabre in my view. Also GM wins with body durability and engine bay room by far. Ease of repair and maintenance goes to GM in the LaSabre over ford or Toyota in the early 2000’s. Looks have to go to LaSabre.

Wouldn’t you really rather have a Buick? Yes, but without the Northstar. Could have been a reliable, world-class engine if not for the GM bean counters. Just like the disastrous HT4100.

Even to this day i love my 3800s❤❤ And have an 04 Dale Jr supercharged Monte Carlo SS L67. Still want an 85-90 red on red Electra. Growing up born in 89 my grandfather had a beautiful red on red every option including digital gauges 86 Park Avenue. I loved that car growing up. Being an 86 it was the red dot 3.8

I have one - I think is a good car - I like the Model and the style - By haven't been able to figure out - how To open the back seats windows - it seems They forgot about This important detail when they made the car - And put them out in the market as RECALLED cars? A horrible mistake - not safe.

I'm still driving the '97 I bought 19 years ago, just hit 150,000 miles... A few mods of the intake, larger exhaust downpipe, and 3 more PSI with a 3.5-in supercharger pulley, and she pulls from low revs like a Rocket 350 V8!
