I’m on a low carb diet and have a CGM. Even the slightest drop in BS causes me to wake up around 4:30 am. Any advice would be appreciated. I’m frustrated
@sleeplikeaboss
@sleeplikeaboss 23 сағат бұрын
That is frustrating. Without having any other infos on you, I would look into adding a few more carbs (healthy, like veggies) to your diet, particularly at night. Your body might be too stressed on a low-carb diet and that could cause overall slightly elevated levels of cortisol. If BS drops the body releases adrenaline and cortisol to provide you with energy. This could then just be too much to push the body into a waking up state.

Yes, it potentially can. Cortisol - our awake hormone - is also an anti-inflammatory agent and if released in larger amounts at night to fight the inflammation this can lead to sleep issues.

I appreciate much of the information discussed during the interview and saw many parallels in my own health journey as described by Dr. Keller's anecdotes. I felt there were some missed opportunities, however, when discussing gut motility. This has often been the missing link for many with Leaky Gut, SIBO, Candida overgrowth, or some other gut dysbiosis but I didn't really hear any specific strategies or regimens to address this issue. Is Erythromycin the gold standard for prokinetics and does it actually work? As Dr. Keller mentioned, many have tried natural prokinetics with little to no result (ginger for example). Discussing patients who are now able to eat anything without concern without providing the solutions they've implemented is critically absent information in my opinion.

You discussed symptoms and causes…what are the solutions for better sleep especially if its hormonal
@sleeplikeaboss
@sleeplikeaboss 3 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and for your question. When you are talking about hormonal causes: are you referring to sex hormones being out of balance (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) ? The approach might depend on age and symptoms, but I would generally suggest assessing and supporting gut health to lower inflammation and with that allow for good sex hormone production, addressing diet and lifestyle and mineral status, so the body has the best foundation to make the hormones and have them work well with their receptors. If by hormonal you mean high or low cortisol, I would look into gut health, diet and lifestyle as well. Managing stress, having a balanced diet and supporting the body with the nutrients it needs.

This doctor is ill-informed & there a lack of nuance here. yes, the commonly prescribed sedative hypnotics & benzodiazapines do harm the structure of sleep & are very dangerous take long term, but there are some sleep drugs that do NOT harm the structure & architecture of sleep. For example, trazadone does NOT disrupt sleep architecture Also, the modern & expensive drugs that work on the orexin system (the DORAS: Dual Orexin Receptor antagonists) do NOT damage the sleep architecture. This is because they target only the wakefulness/vigilance promoting system in the brain. This doctor is lacking the basic knowledge of these drugs. I'm not saying trazadone & DORAS are perfectly safe to take long term, but we shouldn't fear monger about them & lump them in the with sleeping medications that are proven to be dangerous, when there is not substantial evidence of harm There is no such thing as a generic "sleeping pill" which is always "bad", there are dozens of different sleeping medications with different mechanisms of action & cost-benefit profiles.

Interested in the idea that our bodies could be responding to physical stress caused by an underlying health issue. I’ve been to two different Kaiser doctors trying to find out why my sleeping heart rate is always higher than my resting heart rate during the day when everything I’ve read says it should be lower. They gave me a heart monitor and said it’s fine, a heart ultrasound and said it’s normal- not much else they can do and maybe try meditation. I did that for 6 weeks to see if it would improve and it hasn’t. I’m now thinking maybe something else is going on.

I have had insomnia for 7 1/2 years since I suffered a serious TBI. I take a slow release 3 mg of Melatonin and even with that I often get only 3 to 4 hours of sleep. Such little sleep impacts my ability to walk, see and speak. As you know, it is common for TBI sufferers to experience either lack of sleep, or too much sleep. I do not eat rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar, processed foods, alcohol, sodas or any stimulates. I eat a nutrient dense vegan diet and I make everything myself. I have limited taste, smell and absolutely no Hunger so eating is a chore, when I remember to eat I only eat to keep my body healthy. My research has shown that Vitamin D can often cause insomnia so I take a high dose of Vit. D with K2 and my levels have gone from 13.1 to 13.3. I do not suffer from stress, bloating or any of the other symptoms you mentioned but I do not have a thyroid and take Levothyroxine. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.

I am sorry to hear this and thank you for sharing your story. I, unfortunately, can't give personalized advice to anyone who isn't my client because I don't know your entire health history. But I do have a few thoughts/ comments: I was vegetarian for 12 years and then vegan for 3 years and just 2 years ago I added animal protein back into my diet. It has been life-changing. I have seen how depleted of certain vitamins and minerals my system was because of the lack of animal protein. Also, if high doses of vitamin D help you sleep, I would investigate why vitamin D is low: are you getting enough sun? Is your body fighting inflammation and that is why the vitamin D is used up? Is it because you are not getting vitamin A (retinol, not beta carotene) in your diet (eggs and salmon would be a good source). Omega 3s is something that comes to mind as well. And if you don't eat much or regularly I would look into mineral deficiencies and blood sugar stability. Is your blood sugar dropping too low because times in between meals are too big or irregular? Are you seeing a practitioner to help with the repercussions of the TBI? Like an osteopath for example? Sorry that I can't go into too much detail, but these are some thoughts.

@@sleeplikeaboss Thank you dear lady for all this wonderful input. It provides a route into area that I can look into. I do take Omega 3s supplements, a very pure form of it and B12 once a week. Sadly, after the accident that caused the TBI, I have extreme pain in my gut when I eat animal products. My body and my face were rebuilt with titanium so eating was not possible for some time and I suppose my system stopped producing enzymes that break down animal protein. I truly am grateful to you for the valuable information that you provided and will ask my doctor to do more labs. Oddly, I have really elevated B12 which makes no sense. I guess I am a jigsaw puzzle to everyone who looks at my blood work. I am so grateful to be alive that all of this take backseat.

Hi, have you been able to see a physical neuro rehabilitation specialist in your country? I'm a uk neuro rehab and we see patients in your situation. The medics may have medication options to help incr sleep. And review other impacts. I'd also say after rbi & Major reconstruction a lot of people have stress you "stored" into nervous system and body. The body keeps score book/videos is a place to start or any somatic work to release the traumatic experiences, plus polyvagal vagsl activation, safety meditations can be helpful in many. Glad you have slow release melatonin, some find patches provide more genuine slow release. Vit d = fat soluble so have with fat and maybe low if you're fat digesting enzymes are low? Take in oil format or oil drops on meal with some fat, even full fat milk or avocado works. Whereas B12 is water soluble and you pee excess out in urine. Note if you had blood done just after taking b12 tablet it can impact results.

Sorry about your son, my dear. I was my Mother's sole caregiver & her last month of life, I had to administer liquid morphine every 2 hrs. My sleep clock was completely turned off. I live in rural AL & my primary doctor just throws sleeping benzodiazopines at me on a monthly basis. I have heard horror stories regarding these meds as I am 77yo. I do not drink alcohol & melatonin does still not work, as have tried increased dosages with no success over months of time. I practice Yoga 2-3 times a day & have no stress known to me. I tried CBD, that over time didn't help me either. I am told that they have cannabis products that include THC which could help me greatly but that is illegal in my state of AL. Can you think of any protocol that I could at least "try". Seems I have reached a dead end.
@sleeplikeaboss
@sleeplikeaboss Жыл бұрын
Sorry for my late reply. I can't really comment on personal cases if the person is not my client. But I see this a lot, CBD works for some and not for others. And melatonin is often a hit or miss. One thing I would do diligently is get sunshine outside for about 15 minutes every morning after waking up (no sunglasses) and dim lights at home around sunset (no overhead lights, no bright lights). Avoid screens at night or wear blue blocking glasses. This helps reset your circadian rhythm over time. Also, no alarm clock in the bedroom. When you wake up at night, it doesn't matter what time it is. If all of that will not help, it might make sense to look at your gut health and hormones to see what is going on internally that is driving your cortisol up at the wrong time of the day.
